After his first album in 2008 – "Namouche" – recorded in Lisbon with Special Quartet (with the participation of prestigious musicians such as Perico Sambeat, Alexis Cuadrado and Hugo Alves), and getting great reviews by critics and public with his following work, "Short Stories" (the song "Duende de Luz" was voted one of the best of 2014 by the international online publication "All About Jazz", with more than 20,000 downloads, and entering to No. 10 of the TOP 200 of the most downloaded songs of the last 20 years), JAVIER ALCÁNTARA, one of the most prominent composer and guitarist of his generation, winner of new talent festival "Porton del Jazz", is now back in 2016, accompanied by the Short Stories Band, with his new and stunning record, "Resilience".

Fourteen tracks of powerful and jazzy breath, composed entirely by the guitarist of Extremadura, in a wonderful musical adventure sharing it with international jazz stars Perico Sambeat, Pedro Cortejosa, Narciso González, and brilliant and up-and-coming musicians from the Lisbon scene André Mota, André Ferreira, Diogo Santos and João David Almeida.

However "Resilience" is not only a music record: it contains a 24-page book, and works by poets, photographers, a novelist, a narrator and an painter to illustrate JAVIER ALCÁNTARA’s music on this journey of Resilience. The artistry of José Manuel Gamero Gil potentiates the perfection of a musical work with seriousness, with delicate illustrations and texts, filled with sensitivity and beauty.

BIOGRAFÍA

Músico, guitarrista, compositor, improvisador, profesor, musicoterapeuta, investigador, director artístico, y organizador del Festival Internacional de Jazz de Badajoz y del Seminario Internacional Badejazz.

Licenciado en Jazz Guitarra por la Universidad de Évora y con Master en Musicoterapia por la Universidad de Extremadura.

Estudie y estudio jazz e improvisación en España, Italia, Nueva York, y Portugal.

Trabajo en diferentes formaciones de jazz, bossa nova,  música improvisada, danza, teatro, y poesía, tanto a mi nombre como músico freelance.

Grabo y co-produzco mi primer disco con la formación Special Quartet, en el disco llamado “Namouche” colaboran músicos de reconocido prestigio como Perico Sambeat, Alexis Cuadrado, y Hugo Alves, todos temas originales. Special Quartet fue nominado en la categoría de “Mejor Grupo/Artista” y en la categoría ” Mejor Álbum” por Namouche en la II Gala de los Premios de la Música Extremeña Sonora que se celebró el 23 de Mayo de 2009 en el Gran Teatro de Cáceres.

Ha tocado, grabado, y colaborado con músicos como Arturo Serra, Ari Hoenig, Phil Abraham, Hugo Alves, Hugo Antunes, Mario Raja, Claudio Corvini, Marco Tamborín, Alexis Cuadrado, Pedro Cortejosa, Perico Sambeat, Bruno Pedroso, Nelson Cascais, y Demian Cabaud en diferentes proyectos.

En la Musicoterapeuta desarrollo mi actividad trabajando con personas con trastornos del espectro autista, cuidadores, niños, maestros, psicólogos, etc… dando sesiones, talleres, cursos,  investigando, y ofreciendo conferencias en España y Portugal.

Doy conferencias y talleres sobre jazz, creatividad, educación, arte, y musicoterapia en España y Portugal.

Participo en festivales de jazz, danza, y teatro por toda Europa.

Como profesor tengo experiencia con niños y adultos por mas de 15 años en colegios y escuelas de música e impartiendo clases de manera privada.

En la gestión cultural, llevo dirigiendo, produciendo, y organizando el Festival Internacional de Jazz de Badajoz y el Seminario Internacional Badejazz desde hace 11 años.
