Bacchus P-bass with "new forumula" Sadowsky Blue Label flats, played into a Handbox R-400 amplifier through an Audiokinesis Hathor 1203 bass cabinet (older, one-port version).

Loop played on a TC Ditto Looper.  No effects, no compression, no EQ -- neither in the chain nor post-recording.  Recorded through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 interface into Garageband.  Mic is an Audio-Technica AT-2035, set ~2.5 feet back from the cab, aimed at the upper part of the woofer cone (a bit below the mid/high driver).  Cab is tilted up a few degrees on a wedge.

You hear:
1. The loop "direct" (Ditto Looper into interface, no amp)
2. The post-EQ signal from the amp (Gain and EQ at noon, Contour and filters off)
3. Mic-ed sound, port open
4. Mic-ed, port plugged
5. A short sampler of some tones with the volume rolled back a hair at the bass, varying degrees of passive tone roll-off (nothing drastic), amp EQ and contour (again, nothing drastic, but more than before).  Gain is at 1:00.  Port is variously plugged and unplugged, treble switch on cab is up, then down, then up again (see track for notes).

The miced tracks start with gain and EQ on the amp set to noon, with Contour and filters off, and run through the cab's switch settings thus:

1. both switches up
2. top (treble) switch down
3. bottom (mids) switch down
4. both switches down
5. both switches back up, dial in a little bit of bass boost, treble cut, and contour on the amp
6. same amp settings with top switch down
7. same amp settings with both switches down (fade out)

This was all played with the volume and the tone controls on the bass wide open -- in practice I might dial the volume on the bass back a smidge (helps tighten the lows and treble and pocket the sound) and dial the tone control back to taste.  I might add a track with that later. [Added -- see no. 5, above, and see track for notes).

Hathor and Handbox

Under the sweltering moon of a muggy African night, a mixed chorus of frogs and insects provide the backdrop to the shout, rumble and roar of an elephant gathering in a forest clearing called the Dzanga Bai.

11 – treble switch down at cab, passive tone opened back up a bit, more bass, less treble, contour at 9:00
20 – contour off and unplug the port (feels a bit much)
27 – bass back to 12:15, treble up to 11:30
38 -  passive tone rolled back again, treble switch back up on the cab, and a tiny bit of contour
