Next on ICONYC Noir we welcome Mexican superstar Vazik who teamed up with enigmatic duo High on Mars to bring us their brand-new 'Out of your Mind EP'. Hailing from Mexico & Iran respectively, the trio drops by with a lovely progressive and melodic techno influenced EP, which is easily one of their best body of works to date.

The opening track 'Surge of Energy' features rich driving textures; as well as euphoric and moody progressive melodic techno vibes to satisfy clubbing, uplifting and feel-good needs, which are the keywords for this beautiful and extraordinary release. Utilizing a hypnotizing groove as the basis of the mix underpinned by a stacked bassline that gradually eases its way to the breakdown of breaks percussive elements before unleashing into a rising melodic hook intertwined with the infectious groove that fades in and out for maximum effect. BOHO and Rachel Raw have been grinding away for the past few years in the German techno scene from their hometown, Cologne. The two collaborate frequently both in the studio and on the decks, combining BOHO’s deep and focused sound with Rachel Raw’s heavy beats and hypnotizing melodies.

Their new EP, The Happening, stays true to their respective genre-bending catalogues. The title track displays a beautiful, spacey melody over a deep, techy bass line and driving groove. The Mr. Bizz remix thickens things up and takes it to the late-night dancefloor with a deeper and darker techno arrangement. Hansaring brings in the 303 for some acid-flavored progressive house, while Silver Stripe makes use of a filter-modulated bass and arpeggiated melodies to craft a hypnotic and exciting arrangement. Altogether it’s a diverse and unique set of sounds that showcases the German duo’s knack for interesting, genre-blending techno.

About the artist
Khainz has been putting his unique stamp on dance music for nearly 20 years. But the easy-going DJ and producer is the first to admit this wasn't part of a master plan. Electronic music was a foreign sound in the small Swiss town where he grew up. When his older brother first brought home decks and vinyl Simon wasn't sure what to make of it. "I was sceptical," he says with a smile. Nevertheless, he was fascinated with the craft of DJing and wanted to prove he could mix two records seamlessly. Khainz discovered a knack for the mechanics of mixing: he picked up beat matching within a couple of weeks. Soon, he fell for the pulsing rhythm of electronic music.
His records are so sought-after Khainz is having trouble finishing his third album. "Every time I play a new track, to test it, someone from a label gets in touch and asks about doing an EP," he grins. "It's not a bad problem to have." While fans may have to wait a while for the next LP, his busy tour schedule ensures they never go too long without a fix of his irresistible beats.
