This story was one that used to do the rounds 
in Epping when I was a boy.I knew of the cemetery 
gates part as a separate story to the horseman
from the pond, but it appears that, not only
are they connected, but there may even be a link
to the plague pit story*, as some reports say the cart was filled with victims of the plague.

This tale was one bandied around by friends in my youth. Supposedly the person who witnessed the apparition was a rocker who lived up the road from me. I have taken the stance that this was a formative experience from his youth that caused him to become a rocker. It did not, however, instill his love of motorcycles. That was something written into his DNA, as it was in mine.
