A recording was taken at Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary. There is a main highway located next to the Sanctuary so I have been recording during slow times to minimize the hum of traffic as much as possible.

This was recorded in East Sooke Park on Vancouver Island. It was a fairly windy day with not many people around.

This recording was taken at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria BC. Great Blue Herons come to nest during the Spring. The park is inside the city so traffic hum and other city noises can be heard.

This is a binaural field recording done at the Beacon Hill Children's Farm located in Victoria, BC. The farm has been operated by the Koenders family in conjunction with the Beacon Hill Farm Society since 1985. Their goal is to educate and encourage compassion towards animals. 
I recorded on a sunny Saturday morning just after 10am when they opened. I was able to witness 'the running fo the goats'. This is a mini stampede that runs the goats from their sleeping quarters to the open pens so they can be fed, groomed and interacted with.

Beacon Hill Children's Farm (binaural)

This was recorded in and around Fan Tan Alley which is located in Chinatown in Victoria, BC. It was named after the Chinese gambling game Fan-Tan. Back in the day it was a gambling district complete with opium dens. Today it contains many small shops and restaurants. It is the narrowest street in Canada. At its narrowest point it is only 0.9 metres (35 inches) wide. It is now protected as a heritage spot by the government.
I recorded on a Sunday afternoon with the sound of tourism in full swing. I initially sat at the entrance to the alley for a bit and then proceeded to walk down through it.

Recorded inside a coffee shop called "Bean Around the World" in downtown Victoria. It was a sunny Friday afternoon and they had the front of the cafe opened up looking on to Fisgard street

I dropped a relative off at the Victoria Airport today. I decided to record the ambiance inside  the terminal for a few minutes. It is a pretty big place so there is a fair amount of natural reverb. I plan to return to try and capture some of the interactions that occur between people as the arrivals come through to the waiting area.

Here is a selection of planes landing and taking off from the Victoria Airport. I wanted to get a variety of sounds so the first half or so were recorded in mono with a shotgun mic and rest in stereo. I must confess to not knowing the types of planes they are so feel free to add comments identifying them if you know what type they are. I was lucky enough to get fairly close to the runway. The power you can feel and hear coming from the planes is incredible.

I sat in the atrium of the Royal Jubilee Hospital recording with binaural headphones. It is a beautiful open space with floor to ceiling glass windows, plants and lots of seating provided for folks to relax.

This short recording was done in East Sooke. It is a beautiful area of Vancouver Island that sits right next to the ocean. Slightly elevated higher than the beach line is a series of meadows. As I was walking in one I saw this Raven. I made my way over and managed to capture a short recording before it flew away.
