I wrote this adventurous track as a demo for Musical Sampling's debut sample library, "Soaring Strings," which has won a spot in my template due to it's ease of use, solid sound, and the most fluid, agile legatos I've ever used. Programming and performing with this library is remarkably easy--there are a few spots in this track where the melody line remains almost untouched since my first pass at inputting it via keyboard and modwheel. Demo example for Yamaha Reface DX highlighting voice "Numana."  Excerpt of classic 80's synth pop/rock track "Are Friends Electric" by Gary Numan.  All sounds including drums created by 100% Reface DX, recorded direct into Garageband.  Only added effect/processing in Garageband is some master reverb.

Uses the following seven Reface DX voices:
Numana, Bright Midrange Bass, Grungitar, Harmo Square Lead, Electro Beats 11, Snare 18 TF, and Rhythm Box Cymbal 11. 

PS -- after listening on headphones, it might be a little heavy on the low end...

Behind the synth showcases the people bringing you Yamaha synthesizers. In this episode Blake and Nate chat with Gary Luenberger. Gary is a musician and keyboardist who is a legend in the world of FM Synthesis. Along with David Bristow, Gary created the preset sounds for the DX7. He worked as a sound designer for many artists during the 80s and shares some great stories from that time. 

“Yamaha contacted me and said ‘There’s a man in your area, his name is Dr. John Chowning and he’s at Stanford University at a place called CCRMA and he’s doing something called FM’ and I said 'What is FM?'. So I went down to CCRMA and we just sat down with something called the GS-1”.
