‘Suniai’ translates to something like ‘listening deeply’. 
When Guru Nanaak, a mystic, spiritual seer and saintly founder of Sikhism channeled the Japji in the 16th century, 
within it was this 8th Pauree
that is known as ‘Suniai’.

It brings us such timeless and eternal wisdom, as does every chapter of the Japji.
The 8th Pauree is about developing a special sensitivity in your spiritual ‘hearing’.  It inspires the contemplation of what it is to really ‘listen’. To be open and receptive to more subtle, spiritual energy.

Deeply listening are the Siddhas, the spiritual teachers,
the heroic warriors and the yogic masters.
Deeply listening are the earth,
its support, and the akaashic ethers.
Deeply listening are the oceans, the lands of the world,
and the nether regions of the underworld.
While deeply listening, death cannot even touch you.
O Nanak, the devotees are forever in bliss.

Jaya Lakshmi began leading kirtan and writing devotional songs on the guitar, harmonium and piano in the early 1990′s shortly after receiving harinam initiation from Srila Govinda Maharaj, a spiritual teacher of bhakti (devotion) from West Bengal, India. 
As a singer/songwriter she is known for her authentic and deep devotional spirit as well as playing an important part in establishing kirtan and mantra music in the west. Jaya Lakshmi tours regularly in the USA (mostly western region) and internationally and has a global following.
A dedicated yogi, she has regularly practiced hatha-based since 1996, integrating kundalini yoga since 2010 and certified through Sattva Yoga Academy in Rishikesh. She leads Yoga, Mantra and Vocal Empowerment Retreats annually around the world.
