Ms. Kolesnik was born in Russia and has family in Ukraine, where war has broken out.  Mr. Bellew is from Florence Italy, and the son of Brenau professor Shelton Bellew.  The interview was recorded in the WBCX studios on March 9, 2022.   The topic discussed is the war in Ukraine.

Trackshack is a locally produced interview and music program spotlighting local musicians, singers, singer-songwriters and others.

Trackshack is co-hosted by Jay Andrews, Director of Broadcasting & Digital Communications/WBCX, and Bruce Burch, hit songwriter and Executive in Residence at Brenau. "Before arriving at Brenau several people asked me about airing a show like this, and with Bruce’s wealth of music industry knowledge and success, we look forward to interviewing great talent throughout north Georgia on the WBCX Trackshack," Andrews said.

The August 15, 2014 WBCX Trackshack program features singer songwriters Rachel Wiggins and Justin Kennedy.
16 year old Atlantan Rachel Wiggins began writing her own music 3 years ago, influenced by the rock of Grace Potter, the bluesy jazz of Norah Jones and the crossover country tunes of Sheryl Crow.  Playing gigs around Atlanta, Nashville and many places in between is a regular part of life for this full time high school student.   Rachel began her music education through Honeybee Center for Music Education  over 5 years ago, and she has performed at venues such as Hard Rock, amusement parks and Country Tonite Theater in Pigeon Forge, TN.   Rachel  also enjoyed working with Nashville Spotlight.  They gave her the opportunity her to perform on numerous occasions at The Nashville Palace.

Justin Kennedy, raised in Cumming, Ga, started writing at the age of 13 in his parents home studio.  He met Pat Brooks through an orginization in Decater called NAVO.  They began to working together and produced Justin's Debut cd "Letting Go."  One of the first songs Justin’s father taught him was the James Bond Theme, and you’ll hear him play a little of it on this week’s 89.1 WBCX Trackshack!

GUEST: Dr. Troy Heidesch, director of Brenau University’s Mary Inez Grindle School of Nursing.  Dr. Heidesch is no stranger to Brenau as he earned both his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner at the university.  He later received a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the Medical College of Georgia.  During his time at Brenau, Heidesch has been highly engaged in the life of the university, including serving on the school’s graduate and academic councils, as graduate committee chair and on the leadership team of the Ivester College of Health Sciences. He also has served as the Richards Endowed Graduate Chair for the Mary Inez Grindle School of Nursing for the past six years.  In 2018, he was chosen to be a fellow through the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Wharton Business School Executive Leadership Program.  Dr. Heidesch is currently is writing a book on telehealth for Springer Publishing.

Brenau Insight December  2025

89.1 WBCX, Brenau University’s radio station, features The Sofa Sessions, an original program recorded live at 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the John W. Jacobs Business & Communications Arts building on Brenau University's historic Gainesville campus. 

The Sofa Sessions is an intimate interaction between local singers, songwriters and audience members who have been known to break into song themselves.

“There’s nothing like The Sofa Sessions in north Georgia, and this open mic program is well received,” said Jay Andrews, 89.1 WBCX station manager and Director of Broadcasting and Digital Communications at Brenau.  The event creates a truly intimate musical experience as the line-up of pre-scheduled performers play to one another and the audience, face to face, from sofas and closely arraigned seats in the Jacobs lobby.

Bruce Burch, one-time Nashville-based songwriter who is now a Brenau faculty member, said that in The Sofa Sessions it is sometimes difficult to distinguish performers from audience members. “I usually have prospective performers send me a song or two before I put them on the bill,” Burch said. “But, we have had some sing acapella right off the street, and we don’t mind giving someone a shot.”
