A very powerful drone effect in this piece, like the passing of a massive ship.  Very effective.  I like the very sparse but, I think, important melodic work which grounds the listener.  Lovely sound design that really takes you to another place.

Certain artists create captivating essences within their work, no matter what that work might be formalized as, and there are few better that conjure up a myriad of emotions than Maltese producer and multi-instrumentalist Melchior Sultana, who is releasing his new LP on the Oath.

A born feeler of the ways in which music can ignite, reflect and inspire, Sultana’s career has consisted of an endless sequence of forays in multiple genres, styles, and complexions, taking in everything from Techno, Deep House, Soul-Jazz, Trip-Hop, and everything really that exists in-between. His craftsmanship reflects a deeper understanding of how sound is utilized and portrayed, with a careful application placed upon every note and beat that exists within each of his creations. Spaces are filled carefully but with plenty of enthusiasm, with a keen eye placed upon every element to ensure that the frequencies all sing from the same song sheet. As a result, his music feels alive not just with technical layering but with soul and mood, something that reflects his upbringing within the rich cultural melting pot that is the Mediterranean.

Music is an art form in Melchior’s eyes, a purity of expressionism that bares the soul of the creator, and welcomes others into a space where connections and appreciations can flourish. This approach is captured throughout a discography that is bold as it is emotive, as dynamic as it is razor-focused, a broad warm sea of color, technicality, and meaning. His latest phase has seen him cover an enormous amount of ground within contemporary Deep House, with his incredible take on the genre seeing him release music on iconic labels such as 12Records, Underground Quality, Minuendo Recordings, and Ten Lovers Music, along with curating his own imprint, Profound Sound - a series of releases that have seen him rise to the top of the genre, a creator who is vastly admired and constantly sought out.

Sultana seems intent to continue this exploration of sound and form with his new LP, ‘Self Reflection’, with plenty of his tried and tested motifs making appearances here. From the glittering, twinkling opener ‘Chill’, Sultana turns on all the styles he can muster, with power and melodic grace being manipulated with such intuitive creativity. Two acid-tinged numbers, ‘Mirage’ and ‘Switch Up’, come next, and these cuts contrast Sultana’s beautifully considered chord progressions with something a little harder, and as a switch, in the frequency, it lends itself well for the next phase. Three gorgeous house tracks slide through the door next - ‘You and I’, with its calming vocal snippets and pulsating pad work; ‘Conclusions’, with its aquatic, simmering lead synth lines; and ‘Dogma’, with its perky, uplifting organ melody.

‘Heads Up’ is memorable for its skippy beat structure and its well-defined spatial makeup, whilst the dance floor orientated (and aptly named) ‘Remember the Floor’ will have you dreaming of four walls and smoky lights. The record closes out with two superb numbers, ‘Don’t Look Back’ and ‘Module’, which see Sultana really go for it in regards to sequences and tones, and the results leave a lasting imprint on the memory. As always, there’s an extreme sense of satisfaction to be had with this album, a spiritual joy that caresses the soul and enriches the mind, a duality that only artists such as Melchoir are able to achieve. Unidentified Ambient Phenomena (UAP) is a new series by Piscean Daydreams that celebrates unbridled creativity, improvisational composing, and the transformative power of music. The series is designed to showcase ambient music of a cinematic nature with compelling narratives suitable for the big screen. The goal is to entice the listener into deeper states of reflection and engagement with their imagination.

UAP, Vol. 1 is the inaugural album of the series and Piscean Daydreams third solo album on the Ambient Cat Records label. The album represents an evolution of his sound and craft, while focusing on mythic, extraterrestrial, science fiction, and nostalgic themes. It stands as a testament to music’s power to engage the listener in vivid and emotive realms of experience through evocative, cinematic compositions.

All four tracks were initially improvised utilizing an OP-1 Field synthesizer, an Organelle M synthesizer, two Norns Shields, a 128-node grid, a Microcosm effects pedal, and a Teenage Engineering TX-6 mixer/interface, and then enhanced with carefully curated samples and field recordings to create inspiring soundscapes and engaging stories.

This music is best suited for quiet environments and headphones. The intention is to foster a deep listening experience to stimulate the imagination and elicit creative engagement with the music. Each song is a world onto itself and invites the listener to explore the furthest reaches of its sonic horizon.

Track Listing:

1. Neptune’s Embrace
Sink beneath the waves and into Neptune’s embrace, as undulating strings and captivating tones pull you into the depths of his underwater kingdom and realm. This track is designed to induce deep relaxation and generate feelings of weightlessness to mimic the experience of floating in the ocean, while merging with the god of the seas.

2. Transmedium
Emerging from dark, oceanic depths, a mesmerizing craft hovers above the water before ascending into the upper atmosphere and disappearing into space. A dramatic composition, featuring a soaring lead synth, paints an otherworldly scene that pays homage to the transmedium abilities of the craft. As equally at home in the water as in the air, the craft is a sight to behold as it effortlessly ascends into the heavens in-route to deep space.

3. Like Tears in Rain
This track is a homage to the original Blade Runner movie by Ridley Scott and its soundtrack. Evoking the dark and twisted back alleys of dystopian Los Angeles, the track features Vangelis-inspired pads, evocative effects, and field recordings to create a compelling scene straight out of the movie. If you squint hard enough through the rain, then you may catch of glimpse of Deckard lurking in the shadows…

4. Echoes of a Forgotten Past
There was something deeply alluring about the main section of this track when I first improvised and recorded it. It gave me a sense and feeling of nostalgia that had me contemplating how we experience and perceive the past both personally and collectively. To help foster this sense of nostalgia, I added samples to create the aural equivalent of an old vinyl recording that features evocative chanting, resonate bells, a string quartet-inspired arrangement, and a deep drone.

We decided to immerse you in the world of dreams: sometimes light, and sometimes deep, dark, multi-level, reminiscent of the film "Inception".
