Speculate - Forever / Afterthought [Onward Music]

The common theme throughout Mark System’s music is full-bodied drums and heavyweight bass, and this philosophy definitely remains unchanged on his latest track ‘Course of Action’. Featured on his new EP for Soul in Motion, this track begins with an intro of punchy drums and urgent hats, which build on the tone set by the panicked vocal. The growling bassline soon creeps in and engulfs the track with its perfect balance between crisp modern production and the raw analogue sounds of the past.

Soulectrix drops his debut release on Smooth N Groove with his 'Distant Worlds' EP. Recently relocating to the U.K from Hong Kong, Soulectrix also known as Muggsy is no stranger to the scene. With previous releases as part of producer trio under the name of Magnetic Soul alongside hosting their regular dnb night in down town Hong Kong.

Heavily influenced by early 90's atmospheric dnb culture, jungle, soul, funk, house and old 80's dub reggae. Soulectrix goes in with his 'Distant Worlds' EP. Featuring four solid tracks characterised by tearing amen breaks, deep atmospherics and punchy bass lines throughout. Locked and ready to drop 26th September!!!

Born and bred in Brighton, Smasha was raised on drum and bass by her parents listening to labels such as Ram Records and Metalheadz on the way to school. She quickly got a taste for the heavy drums and murky basslines. 

Smasha is a resident raver/DJ at the famous Volks Nightclub in Brighton. With it's reputation as hosting some of the best underground dnb events in the country, it was only a matter of time until Smasha became a regular patron to the mighty Volks. Being a part of such a tight knit and passionate sub-culture is a constant source of sanctuary and it was this sense of community that encouraged her to hone her own craft. 

During the lockdown and whilst living with her DJ/Producer partner, she was able to spend some more time on this love and pick up the headphones. Since then she spends many hours a week buying, collecting, mixing new and older tunes. 

A couple of years on and she’s played in some of her favourite local venues including The Volks Nightclub and Concorde 2 for the likes of Delirium Sessions, Overview Music, Sultry Sounds, Critical Music & Multi Function. Smasha also had a slot on her local pirate radio, Code South. 
 
Expect to hear an hour of minimal, tech, jungle and heavy rolling vibes on this mix.

We’re going in dark over the winter and how better to kick off the label again with newcomer Speculate who brings two quality deep slammers to the table.  A perfect soundtrack for those bleak cold winter nights.

Hailing from Leamington Spa in Warwickshire, Speculate started his production journey in the summer of 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns.  Quickly picking up the reigns he crafted a sound which explores the darker side of liquid and minimal sounds.  Before his production venture, he was responsible for “Speculate Selects”, a well received online mix series.

This one’s an instant classic of a roller that screams BLADE!  “You Can’t Fix This,” is up next and also highlights Blade’s signature rolling drums, 808 bassline, soaring pad samples, and heartfelt vocals.
