I often use a jazz standard as a sort of "practice framework.  It's fun and the harmonic structure is usually quite a bit richer. I can accomplish quite a few practice objectives in one session, and also come away with something to listen to that can be a catalyst for new ideas. 

This time around, I used a customized squire stratocaster that a friend put together for me, and played through a Guptech "Horsie" going into a Strymon Iridium going direct to Logic Pro. Round Amp, Cab "C". 

I have lately become really interested in playing a lot of 1 note per string stuff using alternate picking. Not because it's better or more efficient, but it just lends itself to a different creative output. 

The tune itself is a lot of fun to play, I thought I'd share it.

Night In Tunisia

A quick track I put together for the very cool Tommo at Cracking the Code to a) give him some ideas b) help him get very sick c) make him laugh. 

I thought it would be cool to make up a track that 'could' be an imaginary section to a tune he is working on - sort of an ending - Perhaps it could be a sort of springboard or something.

It was a lot of fun, I mean creating music is ALWAYS fun but this was a blast to put together - enjoy!

Tommo Transmogrified

A track I put together for fun, basically it's the soundtrack to "Omegulus the Evil Hand" which is a puppet show created by the creative staff including (but not limited to) of Ed the Sock, Ted Nugent, Whitney Houston and Gargamel. Due to creative differences and a completely out of control CGI budget, the project has been shelved by Warner Brothers until the new Batman movie is completed so they can see just where puppet shows sit in the economic scheme of things.

Oh, I played lots of electric guitar (6 and 9 string), my first ever Chapman Stick solo (it's not that great, but I liked it...) and got the darned thing done in a day.

It's actually pretty great to listen to while you do dishes. Try it.

Omegulus

Okay, here is how it is. I have been subjected to this movie "Frozen", and all of the songs in the film about 8 million times. Then, I get to hear it on the radio. I still can't escape it, it's chasing me. Yep, it's on TV during commercial breaks... Then when I think it's all over, I  find myself humming the tune when there is absolute silence.

I apologize in advance for the squealy guitar whistlers, and the woodlie-doodlies (I'm not sorry in the slightest...) and the scathing Stratocaster through Marshall tones (Still not sorry...) Also, there is some additional wierdness throughout the track, quite possibly MY ice powers acting up... (Yep, I froze my computer recording this sucker...) 

Anyways, Enjoy my sweet, sweet revenge.  MUAHAHAHAHA

(Seriously though, this was a great tune to re-arrange and cover!)

Let It Go

So once again, I called upon the fellas over at the Stickist.com forums, and the Touchstyle Guitar Facebook page to band together and create a bit of music. The idea was this; Tempo 140BPM, and a basic tonality of C Melodic minor (CDEbFGAB) for the tune. 

Here is this year's result, I think it's really quite good! Everyone sounds great and piece of music created is a unique offering via "tapping instruments". Thanks to everyone who participated, and thanks in advance for checking it out!

BGM - Bach Invention No 1

A fun picking exercise using only sextuplets, but it's also got some hammerons and pulloffs too, so beware! This is guitar nerd territory! And of course, homage to the great Randy Rhoads' Suicide Solution bit... I hope you enjoy this, it was a lot of fun to create!

Okay, lots going on in this one - some clanky clean-ish guitar, some severely growling Chapman Stick and an interesting beat or two with all of the prettiest notes I could find. Woo-hoo! Enjoy!

Photons

So I just got ahold of the Waves GTR solo plugins, and I thought I'd do some jamming and see how it might work out. I made up a riff, and did some noodling over it. Musically, I'd like to spend a bit more time with the melody work to try and come up with some exact parts but I think that a quick "first pass" recording gives a good representation of how the plugins sound!

It was fun, and although it might take a bit more dealing in to really get the tones I might want out of this I was quite surprised at how good they sounded! The fine folks at Waves make some amazing products, I'm definitely liking this plugin for sure! Simple, and very easy to use this was a "no hassle" jam to be sure!

As for the other stuff, it was a Fender YJM Stratocaster into a Persons Quantum recorded in Logic ProX. Any of the processing on the guitars came from the GTR Solo Plugin,  and of course - we're playing along to a Logic "Drummer track". Oh yeah, and there's an Alchemy thing in there too (Logic synth) just for fun. 

It was a lot of fun to rock out, thanks for checking out the riff!

WavesGTRShred Jam

Dug out the Railboard today, decided to start really digging into Greg's 3 finger technique and spend more time with the Railboard. I have barely played it and it really deserves a lot more time put into it, as it's an amazing instrument. Simple stuff, just having some fun - Enjoy.

So... I was just messing around playing guitar in isolation... and I got to thinking to myself, "Self, What if Taylor Swift was in a crazy rock band? What might it sound like..." No disrespect intended, and I tried to remain as faithful to Taylor's tune as possible. I am thinking though that the original is a MUCH superior listening experience... Thanks for checking it out!
