What's the name of this song?

Recently, I tweeted about the well-known story of the king who hated Mondays. After a few confused responses, it turns out The King Who Hated Mondays isn't a well-known story after all and even Google doesn't seem to have heard of it. 

I remember loving this story when our headmistress read it to us in morning assembly at primary school, and so I've decided to remember it as best I can, rewrite it, and present it to you in audiobook form. 

Bear in mind, the last time I heard this story it was 1992 (I think) and although I remember the beginning quite well, I had an exceptionally short attention span and must have been daydreaming by the ending, which I have absolutely no memory of. So I've given it a new one.
