Bonbon Lé Disco

A preview of the new Après Compilation out 28 December 2009 digitally and as a limited edition CD.

For the last three years Future Classic has been hosting a laidback Sunday afternoon event called Après (of course this translates for “after” in French) at the Tilbury Hotel in Woolloomooloo, Sydney. A BBQ, friendly bar staff and turntables on the balcony in the sunshine have set the scene for these under-the-radar sessions that give guests (always performing unannounced) the chance to play more diverse sets than they would in the club. 

To give you an idea of the sound, guests have so far have included Brennan Green, Joakim, Mock & Toof, Lovefingers, Aeroplane, Canyons, Jamie Lloyd, Padded Cell, Idjut Boys, Foolish Felix, Todd Terje, Sidwho?, Loin Brothers, Jazzanova, Karsten John, Jimi Polar, Marcus Worgull, The Revenge, Yam Who?, Peret Mako, Arto Mwambé, Move D, Roland Appel, Dave Aju, Trus' Me, Jacques Renault, Will Saul & Woolfy to name a few with residents Nathan McLay and Chad Gillard.

This compilation brings together selected music from the four 12 inch vinyl releases, plus 2 previously unreleased exclusives thrown in for good measure. The compilation begins with one of these debuts, a sunshine filled nylon string slice of balearica from American Tom Croose’s Worst Friends project. Mario Basanov’s ‘Do You Remember?’ and Touch Sensitive’s modern Italo classic ‘Body Stop’ follows before we dive into the early Hot Chip sounding indie disco of Melbourne’s Clubfeet – ‘Edge of Extreme’s’ being a tune that has led to vocal requests from all corners of the globe. From here we shift down a gear with Pink Frost’s remix of Todd Sparrow, a haunting trajectory into the sunset stratosphere, and the Aussie muscle-disco of Sidwho? (also a member of The Swiss and Empire of the Sun) and the Loin Brothers ‘Heavy Helmet’. Toby Tobias claims the “tour bus disco” sound with his swinging number ‘Azul Blue’ and we finish with a swirling slo-mo cosmic exclusive from UK duo Outmode and the vocal ease of Jamie Lloyd and his lovely tune ‘The Wolf’s Sun’.

Following the success of Leo Islo's EP Golden Grave earlier this year, the release received some exciting remixes from the likes of Birdee, Jamie Prado and Cabinett. This collection of tracks provide a diverse collection of moods and sounds from Prado's soothing Playa Remix of ‘Blame’ to Birdee's stellar electro-disco refresh of ‘Euphoria’ rounded out by a piano happy dance rework of ‘Golden Grave’ by Cabinett. 

Inspired by his frequent trips to Colombia, Jamie Prado took inspiration from his latest visit to produce this beautiful remix that features delicate guitar riffs, hypnotic piano chords, and soft drum arrangements. Prado submerges the listener in a tranquil harmonic state of mind, allowing them to ponder and reflect on every word and beat.

Disco afficionado, Birdee lays down a thick rendition of ‘Euphoria’ with funky bass lines, reverberating electro guitar riffs, and rich dance floor rhythms. The track features an infectious groove that harkens to Daft Punk’s electro house style harmonizing with Islo’s signature vocals. This remix will have the listener nodding their head from the outset, bouncing along with to every note.

Cabinett returns to work on another Leo Islo track and his familiarity with the signers style seals the deal for this remix package with his rework of ‘Golden Grave’. Pulsating with bright piano chords and uplifting builds that really let Islo’s voice shine, this rework blends modern pop riffs with nu-disco horns and percussive layers that keep the energy flowing throughout the song.

Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver, a Dj / production duo from Helsinki, Finland.
Both guys have a history in playing and producing Pop and Rock music as well as DJing, so when they met at music production school they ended up at the studio together. After doing remixes for different acts (such as HIM), it was time to release their first EP, "Diamonda" on Lisbon based Discotexas records.  It was well received and ended up on the nr 5 spot on Beatport's top releases. Remixes for the likes of Justin Faust, A.N.D.Y & Vicente, The Supermen Lovers and Viceroy followed soon after.
"U gave me love" was the next single for the duo and it was released on the New York based Nurvous Records. 
"Ready to Go" Ep came out soon after on the Milan based La Valigetta records. 
In addition to producing and remixing the guys are also doing mastering work for others (Discotexas, Nurvous, Gomma etc).
Jay & Jesse also host a bi-weekly Radio Show called Starboard with Lenno, Bright Shades, Koobra and Hemo Dj' on Basso-radio FM 102.8 Mhz. www.basso.fi.
