Leather jackets and nylon pants. Center parted hair with highlighted fringe. Under-aged youths squatting outside of Far East Plaza.

Thunderous roars from evos, civics, imprezas, racing through orchard road. Followed by packs of buzzing yamahas with brightly painted helmets zipping through traffic.

The night descends, as groups of youth flock towards Takashimaya.
My heart races as the lift halts on the 7th floor. 

That was when it hit, euphoria was exploding throughout my body.
I can't help but move my head to the deep enchanting bass of the eurodance music, beating as one with my pulsing heart. 
Warm and colorful lights were igniting in the dark.
Silhouettes of people were tracing in the light,
Everyone was in a trance, shaking their heads to the music.

The year was 1999. Those nights were the best of my life.
The public called us Ah Bengs and Ah Sengs, they brand us as the pariahs of society. Uneducated and ill-mannered. 

We only knew how to have fun back then, being our truest self.
As the years moved on, our identity gradually faded away along with our culture. 

Gone were the days, the good old Singapore.
I can't help but ask myself, who am I?
What does it mean to be a Singaporean?
