This is truly for the Summer, hence the title & the particular composition throughout this body of work which is essentially a Soundtrack for the Summer ventures. Some tracks purely for the Sunset drives, some for Sunrise drives & others for the night life. It plays a lot off my upbringing in the 90s & how i see the Summer & the memories i have that went into making this project of greatness. Pulling from both my lived experience from the Midwest back home to living on the West Coast is what curated HEAT."

It’s been a steady process of growth and a long time coming to arrive at this sophomore full-length for the man known in his native Steel City and beyond as producer/keyboardist/DJ Buscrates, and every minute of it can be heard and felt on these ten funky and highly evocative tracks.

The finely-honed balancing act between vintage-80s-synth goodness and neck-snapping 90s boom bap, all coated with just the right amount of soulful melodic sensibility never falters at any point on the album. For a more specific comparison, think Manzel's Midnight Theme LP updated for these strange times we're in seems to fit the bill, especially on tracks like "Prisms," "Floating In The Wind" and "Early Morning." This is the funky instrumental mood music you desperately need right now whether you realize it or not, and Buscrates is here to serve it up. "Buckin'" is prominent among the many highlights of the Pittsburgh producer’s album, strongly evoking the likes of Paul Hardcastle, Atmosfear and the Art Of Noise while simultaneously paying homage to the funk/R&B roots of Detroit techno pioneers like Juan Atkins and Derrick May. The album's sonic journey culminates in "On My Way," the only vocal track on the album and which features Soraya Watti's lovely vocals. One can easily imagine this track on the playlist of NY's WBLS in the early 80s. Soraya's smooth and soulful tones prove to be the perfect addition and act as a kind of sexy ghost in the Buscrates machine. The album as a whole feels like nothing so much as an updated, postmodern version of the kinds of sleek, funky grooves oozing through your Cadillac's 8-track deck circa 1972. 

It's music that's "smooth" in all the best possible connotations of the term: music that's smooth on the streets and also smooth between the sheets. It's sleek, sexy and very, very funky, which will come as no surprise to Bus' 12,000 Twitch followers accumulated over the course of his weekly Friday stream. Notable fans and supporters of his include Jazzy Jeff, Francois K, Dâm Funk, Rich Medina, and Spinna. Even more believers in his funky gospel have come as a result of his increasing road gigs in cities like Berlin, NYC, Detroit and Washington DC.

Fresh from producing for rap legend Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) on his long-awaited Negus project, Steven Julien continues to pay homage to his hip-hop roots for the next offering on Apron Records. Few people know that Julien's musical journey began as an MC in rap group The Dungeonaires during his early teens before production eventually became his main interest. 

______ is a collaboration with Long Beach local and The Natives rapper, Senay Kenfe — a musician, photo-journalist and local community organiser who has spent over 15 years working on grassroots, cultural projects including documenting the graffiti scenes of Brazil and Egypt to leading clean water filtration schemes in Ethiopia. 

The pair first linked up during back-and-forth hang-outs between London and LA. The seed of the alliance was sown when Senay heard the instrumental for "Osiris" on an episode of The Apron Show on NTS Radio and reached out to write to it.

Celebrating the tenth anniversary of Summer Dance Forever - Amsterdam’s insanely popular international hip hop festival - Super-Sonic Jazz has teamed up with James Rudie & EVM128’s UK sound-culture imprint Dance Regular to release a ten-track explosion of organic soulful house, broken beat, and bass-heavy uplifting cuts, ripe for the dancefloor.

"A sterling compilation featuring the who’s-who of fresh and upcoming UK talent, the EP is a coming together of like-minded worlds, full of highly charged dynamic rhythms, driving melodies, garage-like beats and an impassioned and authentic joie de vivre that perfectly matches the festival’s energetic spirit, and sets the tone for its equally impressive programme.

The brainchild of DJs James Rudie and EVM128, Dance Regular was born out of an East London event series that focussed on soulful, bass and body music. The label, festival, and events series has become the home for new and exciting jazz and soul sounds from The Netherlands, in addition to showcasing fresher, soulful global sounds, including IG Culture who debuted his Likwid Continual Space Motion on the label this year.
