This is a song that are raw first hand accounts of my personal life while living in Bridgeport, CT. Having come out of what was reported by media outlets to have been one of the most impoverished, dangerous, and murderous places In America, hence the opening lines on the hook, " I know what it is to come out the murder cap." However, as I often try and do, I attempt to find some positive gain out of the mostly negative experience by stating that I take much more pride in celebrating thee strides I have made in light of those experiences than I do in bragging about the tough persona the city is known for.

This is a song that starts off with 12 bars of rap in which I detail the sudden nature  of how things that can seem like they're going well can go awry very quickly. Within those bars are references to some of the crazier times that I have gone through in life and the effects that those instances have had on me emotionally and psychologically. 
 By the time the hook is revealed, there is the question of whether it will "rain on me." However, there is also an understanding that I have come to in that the solution to dealing with "rain" is to be expectant of it, and to learn that life's challenges are universal and non-discriminatory. Therefore, even if it were something that we have never gone through, the mere fact that we would be going through it together is the calm within the storm that gives me strength, perspective, and hope. 
 As the second verse commences there is a drastic change in tone purposely designed in an effort to allow the listener to sense my vulnerability. This is heightened all the more when I elaborate how broken and damaged I actually see myself. If not for the love and compassion that I have undeservedly been shown. However, since love, patience, and compassion were given to me, I can now reciprocate and be the cover from the rain, the eye of the hurricane, and the calm within the storm; all because I was given a chance to learn how to see myself differently. 
 By the end of the song there is a line that is repeated over and over, " We know that place in the middle of the rain, like a hurricane," which is yet another reference to our outermost vulnerable state, in the middle of the rain, where there is nowhere to hide. However, there is even peace and calm in the middle of the hurricane where the eye rests. So that if we may fix our eyes on each other, we'd find peace in the midst of the storms and have the strength to see things differently and move forward.
