The 'Sound Collectors' project is an experimental series of short audio creations made by Summer Streets Festival 2022 attendees. Our guests were invited to try out using professional recording equipment to collect sounds and interview material, and to experience audio editing in a radio studio environment. They were given the tools and guidance, but what kind of content they created - whether documentary, sound art, or musical composition - was up to them.

Perhaps the most musical and experimental creation was visual artist James Wilkinson, whose sound art vignette explores how Summer Streets Festival attendees connect with music on an emotional level, with the interviewees' responses and found sounds adding into a musical beat of crescendoing complexity.

Maryam Almahameed and Louis Young created a chaotic, energetic and undulating bustle of people's reflections about music and the Summer Streets Festival; whether performers or audience members.

Sara Leilah, who performed at Summer Streets as the opening act for the 'Young Musicians Project', teamed up with budding content creator Alexander Smith, who investigated Sara's writing as an emerging singer/songwriter. Their chat-cast style conversation dovetails Sara's original acoustic performances, and recordings from performances at the Festival.

Are you finding it hard to understand aspects of your education role, and struggling to embed some of the more abstract ideas and concepts that we, as teachers, are required to include in our curriculum? Well, this is the podcast for you.

The IFY Education students at the University of Sunderland will demystify 'embedding', one concept at a time. They will get "under the covers" with the nitty gritty side of being in the classroom.

Today, our students are going to discuss the challenges of embedding the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, and how they as aspiring educators can get the job done.

Sustainable development in education allows every human being to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values necessary to develop a sustainable future. Integrating sustainable development benefits students and society, to promote social equity, and encourages economic wellbeing. 

Our guest today, who will develop our students' knowledge of embedding education for sustainable development, is Andrea Brown: Senior Lecturer at the School of Education, at the University of Sunderland.

Andrea has enjoyed a varied career, having worked in marketing, operations, and training, before education. Andrea has taught internationally, as well as across the 3rd sector, further education, and higher education in the UK. Such diverse experience is invaluable for her students, as it brings to life the reality of working as an educator. She is passionate about embedding sustainable education in her own teaching and learning, and is now championing this across the Faculty of Education and Society at the University of Sunderland.
