“Body Mind Spirit” is a masterful collaboration between multi-instrumentalist Àbáse and drummer/producer Ziggy Zeitgeist, also known for his live project Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange and his work with Australian Nu-Soul juggernauts 30/70. As Àbáse x Zeitgeist, they share a deep musical understanding and respect, moving fluidly through future funk, deep electronica, house and techno while maintaining an undeniable organic, soulful and spiritual foundation, supported by the voice of the South African singer Dumama.

The term "Àbáse" in the West African Yorùbá language stands for collaboration. And from the very first moment Àbáse heard Ziggy Zeitgeist play drums live with 30/70, he had a very strong vision that they will create music together. Indeed, soon after, the two embarked on a musical journey, merging their experimental background as live musicians with their love for modern electronic productions. Surrounded and influenced by the urban club culture and electronic music scene that their new home Berlin has to offer, the two kindred spirits began improvising and jamming regularly at Ziggy’s Xberg studio.

The EP beautifully captures a highly sophisticated hybrid of hand-played elements and progressive, electronic grooves. Most of the studio sessions involved Àbáse improvising on keys, synths and percussion over Ziggy’s drum grooves and electronic beat sketches. Ziggy would then spent all night editing and arranging what they had recorded, throwing in loose and crazy ideas, unexpected breaks and cuts that made it difficult for Àbáse to even recognize what he had originally played the day before. Highly motivated by this kind of experimental synergy, the two spent many hours together in the studio following their creative vision.

Coincidence would have it that Àbáse and Ziggy Zeitgeist shared the same stage with Dumama from the duo Dumama + Kechou. The South African-born, Berlin-based, artist, performer and sonic researcher is a compelling storyteller and lyricist. She works to seamlessly blend traditional South African oral culture and futuristic globally-oriented poetics, with a delicate care and awareness of the value of both. Deeply moved by her musical performance and strong spirit, the two decided on the spot to invite her to Ziggy’s studio for a musical collaboration. A guided meditation by Dumama was followed by a collective improvisation that laid the foundation for the profound title track “Body Mind Spirit” as well as several short ‘meditations’ that create a fluid and connective tissue throughout the EP.

Sam Irl delivers a jazz-tinged House EP via Cologne’s Jazz & Milk this November, entitled ‘Donau’ and comprising three originals from the Vienna, Austria based producer and DJ.

The past decade has seen Bavaria born Vienna based artist Sam Irl deliver his signature soul infused twist on contemporary house via the likes of Jimpster’s Freerange, S3A’s Sampling As An Art, SlothBoogie, Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood and of course Jazz & Milk which has become a staple home for his productions since debuting on the label in 2012. Here Sam offers up the ‘Donau’ EP, the title of which references his growing up in rural Lower Bavaria as well living in Vienna for almost two decades, both of which are located on the Danube River.

Opening the EP is ‘Music About Talking’, a five-minute dynamic house workout employing intricately intertwined keys, sweeping guitar chops, vocal cuts and air synth chords running atop jazzy, organic drums and a gritty bass hook.

Title-cut ‘Donau’ follows and dives deeper into snaking bass licks, stuttering guitar plucks, ethereal piano lines and shuffled, low-slung drums. ‘Magic Hat’ then rounds out the release, deftly weaving together twinkling synth chimes, a playful, bouncy bass line and ethereal atmospherics while jazzy keys ebb and flow amongst a raw, crisp drum groove.

One year later, we are thrilled to announce the release of the "ifsonever remixed EP" on Jazz & Milk. As a testament to the enduring appeal of ifsonever's work, four talented remix artists have skillfully reimagined his tracks, invigorating the sonic landscapes he initially created. These remixes offer a thrilling departure from the tranquil ambient style of the original tracks, taking a more progressive, club-oriented direction.	

The EP kicks off with a remix by Austrian musician and producer Wolf Lehmann who infuses the original track "home" with energy reminiscent of the mellow downtempo vibes from the golden era of trip-hop, all while preserving the modern electronic essence of ifsonever's original compositions.

Pulsinger & Irl, a collaborative project between Patrick Pulsinger and Sam Irl, combine their decades of experience to delve into an experimental mix of techno, house, and breakbeat on their club-friendly remix of "an unexpected error occurred," taking listeners on a thrilling sonic journey.

Ziggy Zeitgeist, renowned for his work with 30/70 and Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, offers a minimalistic remix approach to “maelstrom”, showcasing his eclectic nature as a drummer. His remix introduces a percussive dimension to ifsonever's 'maelstrom,' spanning genres from bossa-influenced rhythms to future funk and drum'n'bass.

Feater, a master of blending eras and styles in his purely vintage analog studio, presents a dreamy interpretation of "counting coins." This remix masterfully bridges the gap between the past and the present, offering a hypnotic and cinematic perspective that takes ifsonever's music on an exhilarating journey through the heavens.

The "ifsonever remixed EP" is a testament to the enduring power of music to transcend boundaries and capture the essence of the moment.

The cover artwork, a collaboration between Jazz & Milk graphic designer Tim Schmitt and photographer Frank Hulsbömer, visually encapsulates the otherworldly atmosphere of the music, making this release a multi-sensory journey.

Dusty is back with As Above So Below, a new vinyl EP on Jazz & Milk that delves into vibrant deep house grooves crafted through his beloved MPC, fusing soulful warmth with boundary-pushing sounds. This release is a heady blend, featuring the raw vocal power and percussive rhythms of Ghanaian artist King Owusu (Jembaa Groove), who has shared stages with legends like Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas. Henrique Gomide, from Brazil's Caixa Cubo, brings a touch of jazz finesse on the Rhodes piano, adding to the EP’s eclectic flavor.
Rooted in the ancient wisdom of "As Above So Below," Dusty unites genres in ways that feel natural, as though these disparate sounds have always spoken the same language. It's an EP that blurs the lines—where jazz, dub, African music, and house intertwine, creating a sound that’s as introspective as it is designed to make you move.

In recent years, Dusty has been quietly shaping the scene, whether through curating the standout Community compilation, dropping the Twelve Inch Jams series, or producing Caixa Cubo’s album Agôra. As a passionate DJ on the global circuit, he brings his sound to audiences around the world - from Johannesburg to Istanbul, Manila to London - while also running the Jazz & Milk label nights in Munich and Cologne, collaborating with Sam Irl, and hosting a radio show on dublab.de. The record opens with "Visions," a captivating deep house cut. Warm Rhodes chords and lush synths intertwine over a rolling bassline, creating the kind of vibe that recalls classic late nights in packed warehouses, all while pulsing with a fresh, modern bounce. Next up is "Emashin," where King Owusu's Ghanaian vocals weave seamlessly into percussive house rhythms, delivering an afro-cosmic spirit that feels lively and grounded. Dusty ventures into introspective territory with "Nebula," crafting a dreamy atmosphere through looped melodies and swirling effects. The heavy rhythm section grounds the track with a Detroit-inspired bounce, bridging the vibrant pulses of underground dance music from the past and present.

On the flip side, "Vibrate Higher" amps things up with jazzy energy, as Henrique Gomide’s Rhodes solo dances over tight, rolling drums, creating a perfect balance of groove and soul. The EP concludes with "Ayalolo," a standout track that sees King Owusu return, blending rich dub textures with tribal percussion and soulful African vocals. The latest EP arriving via renowned Munich/Cologne-based label, Jazz & Milk, finds two kindred spirits teaming up for the first time; multi-instrumentalist and producer, Àbáse, and Australian Nu-Soul drummer and studio wunderkind, Ziggy Zeitgeist (who we recently covered on the site with his smash Kreuzberg Kix). Through their mutual love for experimental live instrumentation and modern club music, they have formed Àbáse X Zeitgeist, with Body Mind Spirit EP serving as their official calling card.
	Packed in this sprawling, densely layered EP is a dizzying array of various styles, genres, and musical ideas. Much of the EP derived from improvisatory sessions between Àbáse and Ziggy in Ziggy’s Berlin studio. The two of them spent hours going back and forth, with Àbáse laying down improvised keys and synth work over Ziggy’s drum patterns, who would then mix them to delightfully quirky and eclectic results. The result is something that feels palpably organic and loose, yet grounded in the duo’s affinity for vibey, hard-hitting dance-music grooves. Case-in-point is the centerpiece of the EP, the title track, “Body Mind Spirit”. Coupled with South African-born, Berlin-based artist and singer, Dumama––who brings a stunning traditional South-African vocal performance to the arrangement––the track is a vibrant, hypnotic, eclectically playful cut of world-music-leaning Deep House. 
	On this track, and across the entire EP, the duo displays a formidable knack for taking disparate inspirations and infusing them with their own unique sense of groove-building. There is a deep sense of collaboration and mutual respect for each artist’s singular creative vision that courses throughout the entire project, indicating an exciting, creatively fruitful musical partnership that is only just getting started.

The EP title “Donau” refers to his growing up in rural Lower Bavaria as well as having lived in Vienna for almost two decades, both located on the Danube River.

All three tracks are based on a free-flowing vibe with an organic and unique sound signature. Using minimalistic, but well-crafted song structures, analogue synth lines and sampled drum chops, his deep rhythms & grooves are always purposeful, yet loose and definitely rolling in their own time.

Besides making music Sam Irl has been busy working in his Viennese studio as a mixing and mastering engineer for a wide range of underground and independent artists.

Jazz & Milk is back with a brand new compilation series featuring previously unreleased tracks by international label artists, friends & family! The 6 track "Footprints EP" offers a small foretaste of the forthcoming full-length compilation to be released in April 2014.

Footprints starts off with the heavy Afro-Funk vibes of the Bad Jazz Troupe, remixed by Jazz & Milk label-founder Dusty. Sam Irl from Vienna takes us on a journey of raw emotion. On "Time" he fed his MPC with filthy vinyl samples, jazzy rhodes chords, deep basslines and smooth synth-arppegios - all glued together on top of a driving House beat. "Sidama de Cali" is a 50/50 blend of Ethiopian and Colombian music by Todd Simon & The Angel City of All Star Brass Band featuring strictly horns and percussion - including Quantic on the guacharaca (colombian version of the guiro) and a 'who is who' of LA's music scene.

The B-side begins rather bass-heavy. On Dusty's "Cosmic Path" gliding synths and vibrant percussion float over a foundation of deep bass and slightly off-kilter beats. Russian talent Lay-Far delivers a soulful broken beat tune - "A Good Old Holiday Groove" draws obvious influence from mid 70's jazz. The EP concludes with the legendary Munich-based formation Karl Hector & The Malcouns. "Who's Foolin' Who?" was written by JJ Whitefield (producer and guitarist for the Poets of Rhythm and the Whitefield Brothers) and reflects his affinity for sounds from across the African diaspora.

On the A-side label artist Sam Irl brings Dub culture onto electronic dance floors. Dreams is a forward driven introspective dub track built around a heavy steppas-influenced rhythm and deep bassline. Expect his full-length solo debut album to released later this year on Jazz & Milk!

Mieux is a young upcoming duo from Vienna known from their Boiler Room live performance or their debut EP on Up My Alley! With Technotrap they contribute a playful and dreamy uptempo tune that cleverly balances a straight-forward driven beat with harmonic and repetitive melodic figures.

Label head Dusty joins the EP with a slow-house MPC jam called Heavy Lights. After a dreamy intro the track soon fades into a hypnotic direction based on percussive vibes, big bottom samples and heavy hitting snares.

Todd Simon's arrangement, blending multiple versions of a classic for his 21-piece ensemble featuring himself on Flügelhorn and Alan Lightner on Steel Drums. Recorded live to tape in an 80 year-old studio located in the heart of Hollywood.

For their 12th label anniversary, Jazz & Milk have decided to launch a new series called Twelve Inch Jams in order to celebrate vinyl culture and the legendary 12 format!

JAMS002 sounds the bell for the second round of the series including a 10 years re-issue of the classic Sam Irl cut You Don't Feel Enough. Originally released as a B1 tune on his African Dance EP debut on Pulver Records in 2007, this jazzy house gem found its way into the record bags of many influential DJs over the years. From Session Victim, Glenn Astro, Max Graef to Hodini... the record never disappeared in club sets but certainly from discogs a good while ago.

So it was about time to give the tune a second life and finally press it on the format it deserves - a whole 12 side. The German production duo Session Victim are well-known fans of the track describing it as their secret weapon playing it in quite many DJ sets for years, including their 2015 appearance for Mixmag's DJ Lab.

Hence, it is a great pleasure that Session Victim contributed a remix to the new release. Their absolutely elegant and groove-driven version with a charming 90's touch to it makes a brillant counterpart to the original with its jazzy piano-, drum- and double bass samples leading to an epic synth break that regularly causes ecstatic moments on the dancefloor.

Back in 1976 Georgette or Georgete da Mocidade recorded “Kiriê” – a track produced by the genius Ed Lincoln, a pioneer of sambalanço, a very groovy music style which mingles samba rhythms and American jazz. The Afro influences on this track are unmistakable. The simple foundation of guitars and percussion create a very warm and electrifying sound layered by Georgette’s beautiful vocals. The rhythmic pattern of the percussion intro is called “Congo de Outro", an Afro Brazilian rhythm with Bantu origins that heavily inspired modern producers and laid the foundation for Baile Funk.

The compilation starts of with a key figure of Brazil’s music scene. Since the 1950s, the Genius Gilberto Gil has been gifting us with countless musical blessings. Very few artists were able to not only explore but embody the diversity of Brazilian music as well as he did. Gil’s endless row of classics include the wonderful track “Toda Menina Baiana” which has been revisited by Tahira himself. Adding Ijexá beats, as well as Afrobeat stlye guitars and a horn section on top of the original, Tahira managed to make this legendary song attractive to a young and modern audience. The remix starts of with a long percussion intro, builds up very slowly before finally introducing the first vocal verse - an arrangement especially designed for DJs who love to mix and blend brazilian rhythms in their sets. This remix will be available on vinyl only!

Established in 1995, Barbatuques from São Paulo developed different techniques of body percussion, vocal percussion, tap dance and musical improvisation in their collective experiences. Baiao Destemperado is a Forró (a genre of Brazilian music that originated in Northeast) with the famous Barbatuques body percussion trademark. A truly unique and outstanding piece of music!

Renata Rosa is a contemporany artist that blends sounds of the northeast area of Brazil in a very unique way. On “Brilhantina” her indigenous influenced voice fits wisely to the Samba de Coco rhythms. Its ́s an outstanding track from the beginning to the end and a good example of how powerful and bass-heavy percussion-driven music from Brazil can sound these days. Renata Rosa manages to present Brazil’s musical roots in a modern guise, celebrating widely unkown facets of Brazilian music culture.

Global bass producer Maga Bo continuously explores the contours of Afro-Brazilian culture including many collaborations with some of the biggest talents in Brazil’s vast musical landscape. His track ”No Balanço da Canoa” was remixed by another production pioneer Chico Correa who was one of the first to blend Brazilian sounds of the norheast with
electronic beats back in 2003. On his remix he modernized the traditional style of the original version by adding flutes, synth basslines and strong electronic Coco stlye beats.

Sam Irl is a talented producer from Vienna to keep an eye on. After a few releases on various labels, amongst others a 7" collaboration with Dorian Concept and a featuring on "Kutmah presents Worldwide Family Vol. 2" (Brownswood Rec.) with Ritornell, he is releasing his new EP on Jazz & Milk. 

The "Slower Bavarian EP" begins with "Safety Hertz", a moody deep house tune with live rhodes and analogue synthesizer chord movements building up a melancholic yet forward-driven vibe. The bass-heavy broken-latin "Batuque" started out as a sponanteous summer jam with Dusty on a visit to Vienna which has already been played out and supported by DJ's like Mr. Scruff. The B-side begins with "Oh Mother", a raw percussive afrobeat workout with an ethio-sytle twist, recorded together with Viennese underground group Smizuler & The Helmets. Additional Trumpets were played by LA's Todd Simon. The EP concludes with an excellent remix by Sam Irl homie "Cid Rim" remixing "Safety Hertz", turning it into a futuristic and dreamy bass workout.

Sam Irl, a young producer originally hailing from a small village in rural Lower Bavaria, has been living and working in Vienna for quite some time now. Besides studying recording engineering at Vienna's University of Music and Performing Arts he produces tracks of various styles, ranging from sample-heavy MPC Hip Hop beats, analogue tape-recorded synthesizer Funk to raw Broken Beat and Deep House tunes. He has released on Stuttgart's Pulver Records, Bonzzaj Recordings ("Untitled One" with Dorian Concept) in Switzerland and Fresh Minute Music London. Besides releasing his own music he has done remixes for JSBL, Swede:art, Trishes (FM4), Inverse Cinematics (aka Motor City Drum Ensemble) and Munich's dialect-Hip Hop-group Doppel D.

Look out for Sam Irl's live performances jamming on two MPC's, drum computers and analogue synthesizers.

Several years after his successful debut album „Keep It Raw,“ Dusty hits home with this ecelectic 4 track EP which represents a foretaste of his second album „Mood Matters“. The Jazz&Milk label founder consistantly straddles the line between tradition and modernity and proves that an album need not simply commit itself to a genre or two; and in the process ups the ante considerably by featuring a broad spectrum of musical styles, bringing together Dusty’s favourite leanings such as Jazz, Funk, Soul, Afrobeat, Latin, percussive Beats and Deep House rhythms, while seeking a natural balance between accoustic, electronic and traditional sounds through the prism of a club-music oriented approach. 

This fusion is brilliantly demonstrated on the title track „Mood Matters“ which meshes forward-driven house beats with organic instrumentation – a big Jazz banger for the dancefloor! „Danse Macabre“ features Dusty’s live band project „Bad Jazz Troupe“ taking you on a wild trip between massive horn sections, heavy beats and deep basslines. On the B-side you’ll find the strong Afro-Funk piece „Seventy Three“ with its sweeping horns, charming Afrobeat guitars and mighty drumbeats and let’s not forget the soulful beauty of „Longing Lingers“, featuring the heavenly voice of Carla Vallet ,as well as one of Munich’s most talented producers, Bartellow.
