collaborations

It's my first and hopefully not last collaboration with the wonderful Dirk Maassen. 
I was very pleased when Dirk asked me to record a guitar part to his piece Déjà vu.
I recorded 2 versions, an improvised version and a more composed version. I decided to post my improvised version. It simply has more charisma and contrast to the piano.

It's my first collaboration with the wonderful Noemi Bolojan from Vienna. This piece based on an older guitar piece of mine “Twilight No.3” of the “4 short twilight scenes”. Dubiety was the first tune to be recorded during the first lockdown of 2020. I set up a studio in my spare room, using a Tascam 24 track recorder and set up to record all instruments myself, as i had no internet connection to send tracks to fellow musicians. This piece has some parts still to add, but here is a mix of progress so far.

Dubiety

This is my collaboration with guitarist Jens Felger. The guitar track he sent to me is great by itself. I decided to approach it with a soft touch and tried not to crowd the original guitar part. That was quite a challenge. Here is the final result. Thanks Jens for the opportunity of working with you, loved it!

Our next release sees the return of both Jazzdefector and Slow Clinic, who contributed albums to our catalog in 2016 and 2018 respectively. The pair have been connected via social media for quite some time but when James Armstrong (Slow Clinic) had posted about a stint of writer’s block, Sebastian Buccheri (Jazzdefector) messaged to suggest a collaboration.
James agreed and set about creating the sort of paired-back material which started this journey, with his debut for Somehow Recordings; a guitar, a volume pedal, octaver and an endless feedback delay. This was passed over to Sebastian who added his signature guitar sound to add new layers of improvised melody to James’ drones.

The collaboration that became ‘Green Echo’ drew out a combined strength between two artists who had reached a plateau in their creativity at that point. In their mutual brick walls they found that the blocks were removed through the creation of Green Echo. The bouncing back and sharing of ideas, or echoes if you prefer, translated into something greener, as hope and optimism took hold. The album itself has also become a collection of memories which reflect this positive experience created in winter and for Sebastian in particular, he recalls the fading green landscapes of the midlands, UK countryside in which he lives.

I play the guitar  which is recorded and processed using an old G5 mac with Ableton, Logic, some hardware, and some guitar pedals.
Sometimes I use soft synths and sound samples.
Just trying to slow the world down

Time is different in music.
 Close and friendly it is drifting by
sometimes flying, sometimes even 
standing still, but never passing. 
Nothing gets lost – the first tone 
is not older than the last one.

All music is child of its time, but not bound by time. 
It arises from moments and lives in people.  
Listening to music you make it your own.

My name is Jens Felger and I live in the southwest of Germany.
I'm a composer, guitarist & music teacher.
I love music of nearly every style and I live music whenever I can.
Creating & listening to music is my elixir of life.
The classical guitar is my musical base camp and at the moment 
I'm concentrated on creating music for this instrument. 
I'm not focussed on a specific style but I can't deny my classical background.
