Heavy Sonics Records Launches the "Next Gen" Series with the first installment, showcasing emerging talent with a four track EP that has a bit of everything, while staying true to the core.

The "Next Gen" series is aimed at uncovering and promoting up and coming  talent in the underground scene and volume 1 sets the bar high for what's to come with four hand-picked tracks of the highest quality. 

The EP kicks off with the explosive "Letting Go" by newcomer Xscar. From the very first beat, this track delivers a massive build-up that culminates in a hard-hitting drop. "Letting Go" is a dancefloor destroyer, guaranteed to get the crowd moving and make an impact in any DJ set.

The second track, "You”, crafted by French producer Hydrant, is a minimal and techy roller that embodies the essence of Heavy Sonics Records. With its infectious groove and intricate production, "You" is a versatile gem that seamlessly fits into both club and home setups.

The next track "Sentiment" is a collaboration between exciting artists Bengo and Niss. This track has a bassline that can push any speaker to its limits, hitting with bone-rattling force. These two artists are not to be slept on.

Closing out the compilation is the familiar face of Heavy Sonics, up-and-coming producer and DJ, Morbz, with "Punctured". This minimal roller proves that simplicity can be incredibly effective. "Punctured" adds depth and variety to the release, serving as the ideal conclusion to this meticulously curated various artist compilation.

The Heavy Sonics "Next Gen" series is dedicated to nurturing and promoting emerging artists and this release is a must-listen for anyone looking to stay ahead of the curve in the underground drum and bass scene. Keep an eye on these rising stars; they are only just getting started!

The Young Punx – Mashpop & Punkstep: DnB Mixes

The Young Punx team up with Croatian drum & bass powerhouse Kodin to reimagine tracks from their cult 2009 album Mashpop & Punkstep through a dark DnB lens.

At the centre of the EP is “Like Dat” (feat. Count Bass D) — a tough, neuro-tinged rework that blends heavyweight low-end with occasional Blade Runner-style synth atmospheres. Bronx-born indie-rap legend Count Bass D delivers surreal, coded verses — retelling The Young Punx’s tour stories in a hybrid of Tennessee/Atlanta slang and clipped London RP — over Kodin’s cinematic production.

Also included is Kodin’s reinvention of the ragga-tinged “Juice and Gin”, the remix that first caught The Young Punx’s ear and sparked the whole collaboration. His distinctive sound design and uncompromising grooves push the track into deeper, futuristic territory.

To complete the package, Phonat’s Punkstep Mix of “Ready For The Fight” is included — a rock-meets-drum & bass collision driven by distorted guitars, perfectly reflecting the culture-clash ethos of the original album. Previously released, it’s included here to round out the DnB collection.

Visuals for the release come from Dutch artist Han Hoogerbrugge, whose typographical chaos of lyrics set against pixelated sea creatures and cityscapes offers a uniquely abstract response to the music.
