We have a dear friend of ours joining us for this week's interceptions series. ‘BOWDY’ (Bohdy) has been diving deep into the world of mp3 selection and beat making as of late. Starting from an electronic music fanatic, it has been a great pleasure to watch this wonderful man not only master the art of wheel spinning but has taken a huge leap into sound design. An almost daily snapchat of snippets from this legend showing what he has been cooking up on Ableton ain't out of the ordinary and for us at Proxima, we are certainly not mad about it. In late 2020 ‘BOWDY’ finally gave the people what they deserved and self released ‘Lo-Finesse’ and ‘Divider’, two classfully put together tunes that showcases just how big this man's range is.

After spending many days in the dust in the Australian bush with this man listening to stompers and throwing back VB’s, you can certainly see where he grasps his inspiration from. Having a soft spot for organic and thick bushy basslines it is definitely not out of the ordinary to see that inspiration put into place when you catch him behind the decks.Good progression and tasteful rhythms are certainly something BOWDY showcases.

Not only is BOWDY an expert when it comes to setting the tone on a dancefloor, he is just an all round good person, the ultimate party partner. We are so happy to see the growth through BOWDY in the past few years and absolutely can not wait to see more.

Things I have said about Revolver Upstairs:

That it is my spiritual home.
That it is my church and it is where I heal my hurts.
That during isolation I had a Revs-shaped hole in my life.
That in the past I moved 15 mins walk away when I left an ex so that the Revs dancefloor could help me process and heal.
That I love Revs and Revs loves me back.
Once I was on a date and the dude started talking smack about Revolver - I wound things up very quickly after that and haven't seen or spoken to him since.
That Revs on a Sunday is Sunday Service and we are a family.
That all roads lead to Revs.
That I like living my Revs life.
Revsforevs.

So you can see how I might have been a bit overinvested and uptight maybe. Afterwards I focussed on what I could have done better, a touch overcritical. However I have since had good feedback, the most convincing of which got back to me from  friends of a friend who do not know me at all so had no reason to be nice - they enjoyed my set, which makes me super happy.

This week we welcome back one of our head honcho’s ‘Acaena’. Acaena has been keeping busy throughout the nasty lockdowns of Australia. Experimenting with a range of styles to come to the realisation that no particular sound identifies him as a DJ, experimenting is something that Acaena loves doing throughout a set and he will continue to do so as his taste develops and discovers new sounds. 

Over the bulk part of the year, Acaena has been digging deep, looking for a range of music to curate this mix. A true journey through sound with music coming from some of his favourite local and international artists in house, progressive house, techno and good old fashion steezed out bush swampin psychedelic tekkaz (just to name a few). This style of extended set is something Acaena would love to play on a regular basis in a perfect world, shifting dance floors, creating moods,taking risks, moving through genres and finding that sweet spot of connectivity. 

So sit back, stand up,dance in, chuck on your favourite pair of Sennheiser hd 25s, plug into your best boom box. Do whatever you feel is necessary to groove to this mix, just make sure you enjoy yourself.

Joon is quickly becoming a "Jack of all trades" amongst us here at Proxima.
Handling our digital art, bookings, stage and lighting design as well as slowly pushing his way into the psychedelic world of techno as an artist.

With an obsession for production quality and it's synergy with the sensory experience of being human, Jack has found himself producing more and more of the deep, dark and mind melting sounds that you find with in psychedelic genres.
Consciousness is at the forefront of our experience, it's something about these unusual, alien sounds that reminds us that this music is pure thought and creativity from each producers mind.
These sounds are unmatched in the natural world, thus a direct stream of consciousness into an audible experience.

This episode brings you Joonmack's set from Bangboza; Our Australia day event held up on the waters edge of Lake Eildon.
Bangboza started with us bringing speakers and decks camping and eventually came to a head at the start of this year when we pulled together an amazing crew and really put our minds to making it something special.
While Bangboza may never be repeated in the way that it was at the start of the year we're definitely looking forward to more events of the like, and most importantly we're looking forward to having you there too!

Intercept #44 - Joonmack

TIMBA is an emerging Melbourne based DJ who’s diverse sound ranges from deep progressive and melodic techno, through to chunky bush techno groovers. 

Music, nature and indigenous culture are some of the things TIMBA feels most connected to. Gaining a lot of his inspiration from the way the Australian bush doof scene incorporates these things and brings people together.

Whether it be in a club our out in the bush TIMBA aims to take his listeners on a musical journey, getting them up and moving to his deep grooving baselines and naughty drops.
