Ugasanie - In the Northern Lights

Ugasanie knows for his freezing desolate soundscapes is back with a new album taking us even further north to explore the concept of the unusual and mysterious phenomenon known as arctic hysteria (also known as menerik and the call of the North Star). It manifests itself only in the polar night, and only when the northern lights shine. Man, as if under hypnosis journeys north. In this state of trance he is almost impossible to stop, he becomes aggressive, sings a song, mumbles, experience hallucinations and persistently continues towards the polar star. It is not uncommon that these people end up freezing or starving to death. 

In track 5 the voice belongs to an old yakutish man. The recording was made during an attack of polar hysteria. This field recording was recorded in a Yakutia group of researchers led by Eduard Alekseev in the 60s.

A strange incident took place in the 1990s in late autumn in the taiga. Not far from the epicenter of the Tunguska meteorite impact site. A group of students went hiking to to see this legendary site. They lost their way after they decided to spend the night in one of the winter huts built by hunters of the land. Their mutilated bodies were later found near an old abandoned geological base with radiation burns. Ugasanie explores this incident together with photographer Alexsandr Yakushev in this eerily cold and unforgiving dark ambient release.

As the transient summer solstice has reached its peak we now stand on the summit of life as our nurturing mother is beaming with bliss and exuberance. The slumbering winter cold feels like a distant myth as light reigns our northern lands. We are pleased to honor this joyful moment by presenting to you and the divine Sun our tenth elixir.

'Skärvor av din helhet skimrar genom allt' [transl.. 'Shards of your wholeness shimmers through everything'] by Toffes Värld (formerly known as Kris Dubinsky] is a tale in which familiar environments are permeated by mystery as a crackling perception of reality awakens from the campfire. When the winds arise, our sails rise with it, taking us drifting deep into ourselves while the fire struggles to keep us warm and safe. But the winds are strong.

As we are washed up at the end of the river, exhausted by the long and uncanny journey that took us so far beyond, we're received by the comfort of our rising sun. Rising with it on to our feet we recognize suddenly where we truly belong and the memories of the bizarre vistas of yesterday will forever be there to remind us.
