I was quite surprised when I first listened to this song, I already knew the band when it was sent to me but had heard only a few of their songs like "hello my old heart" which are more my style (indiefolk). This one is based more around a traditional folk style almost like an irish jig. I have never tackled this style before so was a bit worried I wouldn't like it but as I worked on it I began to like it more and more. Now the "olai olei" part is constantly stuck in my head! The original gets quite dramatic and loud towards the end but I wanted to keep my version calmer and simpler mainly because I don't have a drum set...

How rare and beautiful it truly is that we exist.

I only heard this song a few months ago  and since then it has left a massive impact and I have been constantly listening to it! I loved the pure emotion in the lead singers voice and really wanted to try it out for myself. I had to pitch the song down though of course because I can't sing as high haha. All the instruments are MIDI recorded through Cubase 8 meaning none of them are real haha! I really hope you all enjoy this and share with friends and family! I spent lots of time on this cover just for ya'll

Saturn - Sleeping At Last Cover by Jacob Cook

I've been working on this song for quite a while and wasn't planning to put this much work into it haha. It was originally going to be just fingerpicking alone with singing but when I started messing about with effects I managed to make the strumming sound of the guitar sound like a train and knew from then on that this had to be an upbeat and lively song! It's quite rare for me to do something as upbeat as this and it was fun to record but at the same time very sad. This song is about my long distance relationship with my girlfriend. Every time we have to leave each other it becomes very difficult so I made this song for her to make things more positive and bring hope. (If that didn't make sense then check out my other song Hands Intertwined haha)This song is for all long distance couples out there and I really do wish the best of luck for you all.

Ed Sheeran has been a massive inspiration to me and surprisingly I haven't done that many covers of his songs. This song stood out to me from the rest in his brilliant new album and has become a favorite of mine to busk on the streets and perform at pubs. I had to pitch the song down though of course because I can't sing as high as him so if you play this along side the original it will sound terribly out of tune. Only the guitar, guitar percussion and singing are real and recorded. The bass was created by pitching down the guitar an octave. All the other instruments are MIDI recorded through Cubase 8 (tamborine, bass drum, piano) I really hope you all enjoy this and share with friends and family! I spent lots of time on this cover just for ya'll.

I've been working on this cover for quite some time and have had to put aside a few times in order to actually upload other covers in between. I first started it around 2 years ago where I created it through audacity and everything was more acoustic themed. I just recently came back to it a few months ago with the urge to try and replicate the complicated sample melody. This song may seem full of electronic sounds but all are real instruments and sounds that I have recorded apart from the drums. (The melody is created by splicing together samples of my vocals. The intro is created by reversing this melody). If you want me to make a tutorial on how exactly I created the song then please let me know in the comments and I'd love to explain!

Heavenly Father - Bon Iver (cover) // Jacob Cook

"That howling wind, she'll take everything

This was the first Gregory song I heard and it was thanks to the playlist: Mostly Strings. I instantly fell in love with it and was desperate to learn how to play it. Since then I have seen him perform it live and even ticked off from my bucket list: 'busk Amsterdam in Amsterdam by the canals'. It's a shame how unknown this song is but in a way that gives it it's own little charm. This piece was recorded as part of my A2 Music Tech coursework and all the instruments had to be real (not midi). Special thanks to those who played the parts for me :D

"Hold your hands upon my head. 'Til I breathe my last breath"

Been working on this cover on and off for over 2 months, thought I had finished it by beginning of July but I got slightly addicted to perfecting it. It took me a while to try and match sufjan's vocal style but found out that the answer to it was using a magnetic tape VST and lots of EQ that boost the mid high frequencies and make it sound very old fashioned. 

This cover is for my girlfriend, who without her I would never have gotten into Sufjan's music as much as I have, but also because it is one of her favorite songs. A big shout out to James Simpson who is obsessed with the film - (call me by your name) who keeps telling me how good it is. Was slightly disappointed when this song was played in the film but was covered up by a roaring waterfall.

"Like a fire in the distance I can see but I can't help"

This song was the first by Aquilo that really stood out to me. I was fascinated by the courage of mixing two genres of folk and electro together, to make a chilling/mesmerizing piece. It reminds me of bon iver songs like heavenly father that take a similar approach. I had loads of fun working on this project and managed to cut down the time spent working on it by not over perfecting it like usual, so sorry if there's any mistakes in mixing. I especially enjoyed working on the drop/ chorus, mixing together acoustic guitar with deep synths, flutes, sound fx, scratches and trumpets. This cover once again, was suggested by my girlfriend (she has a good taste in music and enjoys similar songs to me).
