This is the first of 4 pieces that are a realization of John Cage's "A dip in the lake" composition, adapted for Greater Lafayette Indiana. Field recordings were done with a zoom H1 recorder, and the mix was completed in Cycling 74 MAX.

One of a couple tracks I found on an old backup. This was a very hazy period of time for summerfield. Chris had started a new business and wasn't able to play, so we ventured on without him in a couple of configurations. The one in this recording included Chuck Goshert (ex: Monsula) on guitar. He added a really interesting flavor. At another point we had Kate Jenkins come from Indy to play bass and I jumped to guitar. I think we played a show at Smedley's Purple Underground with that lineup, but my memory is fuzzy. 

These were recorded at a practice at John Gordon's house in Lafayette, probably on my tascam four track with a SM57.

We started practicing/writing again in 2011 and 2012. I think we were torn between looking for a new direction and building on what we had done in the past. I think this one turned out pretty well. It was one of a couple that were built around a bassline.

This was another one that turned out pretty well, I think. Started as a kind of busy bassline that got simplified a lot. The placeholder lyrics eventually got replaced with a story about a quest for Japanese food with mushrooms. (shabu shabu)
