Jon shared “Monkey Parts” with me while we were discussing an unreleased track we were working on. Jon’s original track instantly inspired me and the lyrics easily flowed onto the paper (actually I write all my lyrics in Apple Notes, lol) and then into GarageBand (using my Apple headphone mic to everyone who mixes my vocals exasperation). I held onto the unmixed track for a while (really for no good reason besides it wasn’t in the stars’ plan until now) and then finally worked up the urge to “git er done.” 

As for the lyrics, the last time I had anything weed related was probably 11 years ago in California. At that time, all things marijuana were relatively easy to acquire since many of my friends had “doctor’s notes” to go to the medical dispensaries. It was fun to try all the new novel dope products people were making and selling. Since living in Oregon, for over 6 years now, I have not once thought about partaking in the herb, even though I can easily walk to several cannabis stores from my home. I think there are more pot stores in the Portland area than convenient stores, I do not live in a reefer desert, lol. But still, I was inspired to write a song about maryjane.

On her 15th birthday, the Little Mermaid swam to the ocean surface. A large ship with three masts lay calmed on the water nearby.  The Little Mermaid swam close to the cabin windows and saw a number of well-dressed people within, among them was a young prince, the most beautiful of them all.... Soon, the waves rose high and heavy clouds darkened the sky: a dreadful storm was approaching. The waves rose high as mountains and the ship dived like a swan between them. At length, the ship groaned and creaked, the thick planks gave way under the lashing of the sea, the main mast snapped asunder like a reed and the ship lay over on her side, the water rushing in.....
