This month’s guest mix for Connective Tissue was put together by Melissa Guion aka MJ Guider, a musician/producer, radio DJ, and artist based in New Orleans. Her album, Sour Cherry Bell, came out on Kranky last year and is one of my favorite releases to emerge out of the pandemic. I met Melissa when I lived in New Orleans and we both had radio shows at WTUL 91.5 fm. Her show, Night Gallery, continues to air every Friday from 8-10pm.

Connective Tissue - Dublab May 2021 - with MJ Guider

Probably one of kindest and welcoming humans you’ll ever meet. FEVER’s next mix is from Tom DeBlase and he’s quite a big deal in the Rochester, NY Queer scene. Tom paid us a visit back in 2019 but back home he’s resident DJ and promoter for his own party, Sole Rehab. Every DJ has unique stories about how they got started and Tom’s is no different. Mom played an important part at an early age listening to the weekly radio show Hearts of Space on Sunday nights. After attending his first rave in 1996 he knew what he had to do. Collaborative events began in the mid-2000’s and his first solo event series in 2008. He connects with many different genres bringing together effortless sets that span the complete history of Queer dance music. I’ve known Tom for a couple years now and his mixes continue to evolve and take listeners on new journey into familiar and sometimes unknown territory. And the second  contribution to our mix series is no different. FEVER is very excited to bring Tom back in July but take a listen to his mix to tide you over until then.

Clarisa Kimskii has been involved in Electronic Music for for over two decades in her native Washington DC, New York and Berlin. She got her first pair of turntables in 1997 and starting organizing events and playing House, Breaks and Techno records shortly afterwards. 
She tried to walk away from music in 02 to pursue another dream of acting which took her to NYC. As she was about to leave for Seoul for  
a life changing opportunity her heart screamed this isn’t it. Alas! It was techno. 
In 2008 she started DJ’jng again.
  Shortly afterwards she started  tinkering  with music production and started releasing music in 2013 through her imprint L.A.G. At first with then production Partner Cory James as Point Break. Then later on she went on to release music on Mary Yuzovskaya’s Monday Off, Jamaica Suk’s Gradient, Sophia Saze’s Dusk & Haze , Rush Plus’s Metro Xpress, famed ambient label  Mysteries Of The Deep and Laura BCR’s On Board Music. 
As a DJ her sound fluctuates through the various sub genres of techno depending on the time and the space. This has had her play at such venues and events such as Tresor , Pornceptual, About Blank, Ohm, The Bunker , Output, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Sequence, Chalet, Trade (Miami), The Knockdown Center, Flash DC, Honcho Campout and many others throughout the years.
