German Schlager hits of the 1950s and nostalgic chansons evoke memories of the past and a rediscovered joy of life. Acoustic sounds, folk, and jazz symbolize the search for security and a new normal. Brit Pop, Swing, and Rock'n'Roll represent the dawn of a new era, while Indie Pop, Chamber Pop, and even a wedding march musically underscore the hope and the gradual blossoming of new dreams. Buch 5 von "Hinter uns das Land" schlägt ein neues Kapitel auf: Die Schrecken des Krieges liegen hinter den Protagonisten, doch die Narben sind tief. Diese Musiksammlung begleitet die Familie Feyerabend in der Nachkriegszeit, einer Zeit des Wiederaufbaus, der Hoffnung und des langsamen Heilens.

This is a story of a knockdown, not a knockout.

"Ten Counts" uses the metaphor of a boxing match to tell the true story of a young refugee's arrival in post-war Germany. It's about facing a cold, hostile welcome that feels like a punch to the gut, but finding the inner strength to get back up before the count of ten. A song about the moment resilience is born from a spark of kindness in the darkest of places.

This track is a central piece of the novel "Hinter uns das Land" (The Land Behind Us).

"Ten Counts" nutzt die Metapher eines Boxkampfes, um die wahre Geschichte der Ankunft einer jungen Vertriebenen im Nachkriegsdeutschland zu erzählen. Es geht darum, einem kalten, feindseligen Willkommen zu begegnen, das sich wie ein Schlag in die Magengrube anfühlt – aber die innere Stärke zu finden, wieder aufzustehen, bevor man bis zehn ausgezählt ist. Ein Lied über den Moment, in dem aus einem Funken Freundlichkeit in tiefster Dunkelheit Widerstandskraft geboren wird.

This Knockdown Won’t Be The Final Round (From the Original Novel Soundtrack)

This is a song I had to write . My wife of 30 years Gill has a rare condition which has made me her main carer , we used to be party people , but sadly that is no more . Going out is such an effort as she has lost the sense of balance , there is no cure , and it's getting worse !
So I do music when I can slot it in around caring for Gill , but I love her and I will continue to care for her , hence the song title ! But on the plus side we do laugh a lot , we always have .
Phew , that's the sad stuff out of the way ! Next up is me and Kim with a dark gothic rocker closely followed by me , Dave Cooper and Axel Menningen with a country classic , then me and Gaz Brownie with a belter , and loads more to follow !

Conceived in Athens, Greece, The Blue Square is the duo of Radim (Vasilis Sourais) and Radical (Christos Volotas) who have come together with a love of noir atmospheres, old spy films, and dusted, jazzy beats. Since their beginnings in 2010, The Blue Square have been making waves with their explorations into instrumental hip hop, nu-jazz, and trip hop, and earned slots DJ’ing alongside Wax Tailor, ASM - A State Of Mind, Bonobo, and Gramatik. Paul Cheeba of Morcheeba is also a fan, premiering a track by The Blue Square on the widely listened to Trip Hop Nation podcast. 

The pair’s self-titled debut album – and their first release on vinyl – has been issued by Greek label Melting Records and delivers heaps of cinematic vibes and crucial rhythms. The Blue Square have expressed a desire to create ‘soundtracks for imaginary films’ and their album certainly fits the bill. “Believe’, the opening cut, quickly sets the tone with a heavy lounge feel wrapped in vibraphone melodies, saxophone riffs, and classic beats. “Tic Toc” mashes together a number of styles and sounds, featuring desert guitars, vintage keys, and hip hop vocal drops over some seriously dope drums. “Mama”, with vocalist Esterina, showcases the diversity of the crew, as it’s a deliciously jazzy vocal number that transports the listener to a nostalgic club scene while firmly rooted in its contemporary base. 

These are just a few highlights from the eleven track album, and the different moods and sounds provide an infectious ‘sonic film’ from The Blue Square’s imagination. Dive in and drift away.
