J. Nabil—or Joshua, as his friends know him—is a “Jack of all trades” kind of artist hailing from Washington D.C. His music is rooted in the deconstructed elements of R&B, using everything the genre has—layered with the grit of Boom Bap, the moodiness of Trip-Hop, and the soul of his upbringing—singing in choirs and playing in bands. These influences collide and evolve into his self-coined genre, Urban Cowboy Blues: a sound and philosophy born from his walk with Christ through shifting seasons—finding reasons to sing the blues in a world that often shies away from them. It’s about fighting nihilism with faith, without denying the weight of our troubles or the depth of what we feel.

He describes his music simply: “These are just the sounds I hear in my head, along with the movie I feel like I’m living in.” It’s funky, it’s vibey, but it’s never empty. Every song carries intention. “I’m not here to waste words,” he says. Whether he’s writing, producing, or performing, his mission stays the same: to tell the truth, to make you feel, and to make you move.
