At 6 p.m. on February 9, 1996, WYNY switched its stunting to a heartbeat sound effect, promoting the launch of a new format coming the following day at Noon. At that time, WKTU was relaunched on 103.5 FM with a dance-based CHR format; WKTU's first song was "Gonna Make You Sweat" by C+C Music Factory.
The station went to number one in the Arbitron ratings in their first monthly ratings report with the new format.
Drag performer RuPaul co-hosted mornings with Michelle Visage, Lisa Taylor and Freddie Colon around this period, further helping their ratings. 
Sean "Hollywood" Hamilton and Goumba Johnny made their debut at night, and after much success, were moved to mornings in January 1998.

"Kiss 108" is one of the United States and New England's most prominent top 40 stations, notable primarily for its annual Kiss Concert, which draws some of the best-known names in the pop music business to Mansfield's Xfinity Center concert venue each spring. 
From January 12, 1981, until his retirement in May 2022, morning DJ Matt Siegel was a fixture on the Boston airwaves and was briefly nationally syndicated during the late 1990s.
The "Kiss Top 30 Countdown" is a locally produced program on Kiss 108, hosted by DJ Billy Costa. The countdown once aired solely on Saturday mornings but is now broadcast twice each weekend, on Saturday mornings and Sunday nights.

After the simulcast ended, on September 5, 1996, Greater Media changed WKLB's call letters to WROR, and changed the station's format to oldies.
The WROR callsign had previously been used on 98.5 FM until 1991, later being been "parked" first on WMFN (640 AM) in Zeeland, Michigan, then on WROR (1150 AM); the latter was also owned by Greater Media at the time.
The "new" WROR played 1970s pop and rock oldies, disco, some 1960s oldies, 1980s soft rock and top-40 crossovers, along with some classic rock, and hired several staffers connected to the "old" WROR.

During the late 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, WKBW became a major force in pop radio over the East Coast. KB had a 50,000-watt transmitter (the maximum power allowed) at their transmitter site in Hamburg. This high power blanketed the entire eastern U.S. with Top 40 music every night, and the station actually had a better signal at night in the western Boston suburbs than Boston's own Top 40 station, WMEX, located at 1510, right next door to WKBW. 
Disk jockeys included future Price Is Right announcer Rod Roddy, Dick Biondi, Danny Neaverth, Jack Armstrong, Joey Reynolds, Steve Mitchell, Bud Ballou, Norm Marshall, Tom Shannon, and the Amazin' Jim Quinn.

En 1964, Michael Pasternak, américain, ancien militaire, officie sur la plus célèbre des radios pirates « Radio Caroline » (Angleterre) sous le pseudo de « Emperor Rosko » et jouit ainsi d’une réputation internationnale voire mondiale… Il vient en France en 1966 sur RTL et présente « Bon Dimanche les Copains ». 
Il se produit ensuite sur d’autres radio 1 (BBC pop music), RMC et Radio Andore. 
Il repart vivre aux USA dans les années 70 et s’installe à Los Angeles, sa ville natale, en californie. Dans les années 80, Rosko présente Hollywood Music (émission promo), commandé par la marque des chewing gum bien connue qui sera diffusé en France sur de nombreuses radio libres. « Hollywood music, le son de la Californie… »

Radio Metropolys est créé au moment de la libéralisation des ondes, en 1981 à Roubaix dans le Nord-Pas-de-Calais par André Hibon et Antoine Gabert.
La radio est relancée en 1984 à Marcq-en-Barœul près de Lille par deux anciens animateurs de Radio Arc-en-ciel dans le Nord, Philippe Schemberg et Bruno Lecluse, sur le 92 FM.
En 1986, les dirigeants de Metropolys créent une société Médialeaders qui est commune à Radio Arc-en-ciel. L'audience record atteint 23,7 % d'audience à Lille, les annonceurs publicitaires sont au rendez-vous. La maison de disques CBS records (Sony Music) entre au capital de la société Médialeaders ce qui permet à Metropolys développer son réseau le Nord puis dans le reste de la France.
En 1988, la CNCL (CSA) suspend Metropolys pendant dix jours à la suite du dépassement de la puissance d'émission.
En 1989, Metropolys débute la diffusion de ses programmes par satellite.
