EPM Podcast 167 comes from head ‘hydro-tripper’ Black Eyes. Hailing originally from Manchester, in the industrial north of England, Black Eyes has effortlessly relocated to the similarly gritty streets of Berlin, where his raw, trademark sound blends perfectly with the sodium lit concrete environment. His deep, multi-layered techno sound can not only be heard on his own label, Lost Control 2097 but also on his 7 year NTS radio residency and now Balamii radio. But for a man who cites Omar S and Young Marco amongst his key influences, DJing is where you will find him at his best. EPM Podcast 167 captures an emerging global talent coming into his own sound which is perfectly captured here amongst tracks from Rick Wade, Jon Dixon, Paul Johnson, Soulphiction, Glenn Davis, Technoir and a cut from his debut solo EP. 

Whilst excelling as a producer of self-described “Hydro-Trip” which is deep and trippy house, Black Eyes is at heart primarily a DJ, and always will be. His sound is heavily influenced by Detroit producers Mike Huckaby, Walt J, Omar S and Norm Talley as well European DJs like Young Marco and MCDE with their unique mixing styles. These influences shine through both in his sets and in the releases from his own label, LOST CONTROL 2097, most notably heard over a 7 year residency with the infamous NTS radio, more recently Balamii radio, and at the now legendary parties he ran at The White Hotel in Manchester. 

Since moving to Berlin in 2022, he has released Planet People - Terra Firma with Reedale Rise. This is their deep techno + house side project and their debut record is available via Rush Hour. His solo EP ‘Hydro-Trip vol 1’ is out this August on Lost Control 2097 with a remix from Rolando of Los Hermanos / Underground Resistance fame.

Anechoic is an artist of Moroccan origin based in Paris. Focused on crafting textured and evocative sonic landscapes, he distinguishes himself by blending elements of ambient, techno, and experimental music to create a hypnotic and immersive listening experience.

Anechoic's productions have found their place on various labels, including Concrete, Lowless, Cosmic Wave, Diffuse Reality, Konsequent, Faut Section, and Accents Records. In 2023, he ventured into new projects, exploring different facets of his artistic universe. He has taken part in the Château Perché Festival both as an artist and as a stage curator, where he showcased European talents from the deep techno scene.

In this hybrid set, Anechoic employed his live smooth looping techniques to introduce dynamic transformations and enhance the tracks with his own samples. This approach allows him to improvise and craft new elements as the mix unfolds, offering him an expansive realm of live creative possibilities.

Jean Nipon is an enigma to say the least. The mystery that surrounds him is hardly surprising, however, considering his origins are so uncertain. There are many theories as to where he came from but the most commonly held belief is that he emerged from amongst the bracken in Western France clutching nothing but a Pink Floyd record.


Jean Nipon started out as a drummer in Hardcore bands and got into DJing circa 97. At first it was a cheap ploy to get more in touch with his fellow humans (read: get girls). Then it became something of an art form, and many a reveler remembers his seven-hour sets at Paris Paris where, as a resident, he would play the latest bangers in custom- edited form, plus Prince, Minor Threat, Aphex Twin and the Beastie Boys, Dinosaur Jr and Lio, Pink Floyd and Shellac, My Bloody Valentine and KRS One. What he does with those CD decks... Nobody can touch him. We’ve also seen him funcrush a couple of yuppie parties that didn’t deserve to dance: he’s a man of principles.
Let’s rewind it back: hardcore drummer, DJ, designer, lives in Japan for a year, designs a Coke bottle, sells records for two years in Paris at Katapult where he meets DJ Wet with whom he starts I.Y.M. (a 12” on Wwwilco) and Teamtendo. Teamtendo was a duo of giant plushies who played 8-bit-gabber- electro on tricked-out Gameboys (a 12” through Institubes and one via Deco). Does some remixes for TTC, Ark, Micronauts, Cosmo Vitelli, Lesbians On Ecstasy, Adam Kesher, David Rubato. Directed three volumes of the DJ-oriented "Eurogirls" vinyl project for Arcade Mode with Orgasmic.
In 2004 Jean Nipon assumed the alias that he continues to go under today. Having released on karat, Midnight Munchies, and Silverback records and remixes on citizen or Discobelle, the enigmatic man is due to release his deput EP for ClekClekBoom on the 15th of December. This 3 track ep full of bass and shaking post house vibes will be both unique and deadly, you can count on this man for that.
