The Cello Sonata in G minor, Op. 65, was written by Frédéric Chopin in 1846. It is one of only nine works of Chopin published during his lifetime that were written for instruments other than piano (although the piano still appears in every work he wrote). Chopin composed four sonatas, the others being piano sonatas. The cello sonata was the last of Chopin's works to be published in his lifetime.
The sonata was written for and dedicated to Auguste Franchomme. The last three movements were first publicly performed by Franchomme and Chopin at the composer's last public concert, at the Salle Pleyel on 16 February 1848.

Rachmaninoff wrote two sets of Etudes-Tableaux. The first set, Opus 33, originally conceived as a series of pieces, was written at Rachmaninoff’s estate, Ivanovka, in the months of August and September of 1911 and premiered by Rachmaninoff on December 13, 1911. Of the nine pieces composed in August 1911, only six were originally published under this opus number. The fourth in A minor was withdrawn from the set, revised, and became the sixth Etude of Opus 39. What we now know as Etudes three and five were published posthumously. This has resulted in a sequence of pieces that was unknown to the composer and probably not what he intended (Matthew-Walker).

The final versions present eight Etudes-Tableaux from Opus 33 and nine from Opus 39.

The Arabeske, Op. 18, was written in early 1839, perhaps as an act of appeasement in a troubled time. 
The title is informative: an Arabeske or arabesque is an ornament or style of figural, floral, or animal outlines used to create intricate patterns, inspired by Arab architecure. It is also a dance term, a ballet position. A simple ambling tune makes three appearances, interrupted by two minor-key passages. The tune itself is unchanged in each occurrence, but notice how Schumann obliges us to reassess the figure, as though our view changes when seen through the differing shadows cast by the intervening passages.
