> Salamanda is a Seoul-based Leftfield Ambient music producer/DJ duo of Uman Therma (Sala) and Yetsuby (Manda).
Salamanda believes every sound has beauty, and loves to collect and experiment with all kinds of sounds from the world around them.


q. is there a story behind the mix?

> Before working on the mix, we coincidentally saw a picture of one of our favorite artists' living room from a magazine. From the photo, the place seemed very welcoming, cozy, sophisticated and peaceful... and we wondered what it would be like to live there.
So this mix is about our fantasy of having a cup of tea in each of our dream houses on a rainy summer afternoon.


q. what's the best way to enjoy your mix?

> On a lazy, a little bit gloomy late morning or early afternoon, grab a hot coffee, get your blanket, turn this mix on, and look out the window.


q. describe a favourite object in your living room...

> Sala's answer: Happy plants.
> Manda's answer: Cat tower.


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

> In terms of our release, we had a new release that came out most recently called "Sphere," which you can check out on Métron Records bandcamp or streaming platforms such as Apple Music / iTunes, Spotify and more.
As for other interesting music-related projects, luckily we've been able to work on a series of exciting projects that we really enjoy(ed) being a part of. They will be revealed soon, so please keep your eyes peeled!

q. is there a story behind the mix?

no specific story, I put together some old and new tracks which I enjoyed lately, probably the last mix made in my old flat before moving to different city.

q. what's the best way to enjoy your mix?

i like my coleus flowers

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

i'm working on a remix and an album with a friend, beside that together with my girlfriend we write a mocumentary.

q. pls introduce yourself

I'm Rory, I live in South East London, spend a good deal of time working with sounds and putting various names in front of it, but mainly do things as Malvern Brume. I run a small label with my good friend Ben Waggett called Infant Tree and do all sorts of other stuff in and around those things.

q. is there a story behind the mix?

Not sure there's much of a story in terms of a narrative but usually when approaching these things, unless i've got a burning urge to do something specific, its a case of playing the music i've been listening to most at that given time (which is why in most of my mixes you'll hear something to do with Af Ursin or Karla Borckey because I seem to listen to them all the time!). I find I fall quite easily into listening to music that reflects how I'm feeling, as I'm sure most do so it's nice to have a document of it to look back on. I like music that challenges me and my perception of what I would deem to be good. Quite often I find things like the music I've played at the start of the mix to be confronting, something to do with the minimal instrumentation and probably some emotional entanglement. I think writing about sound can be an impossibly difficult thing to do and there's very few people who do a good job of it (in my opinion) so I'm hesitant to say too much! haha

q. what's the best way to enjoy your mix?

All the music I've picked is stuff I've listened to whilst walking or cycling so I'd say that would be one suggestion. I really enjoy the disturbances and interactions that come from listening in a less controlled listening environment, especially when you come across tones that oscillate against what's happening in the music. Walking is a really important part of the Malvern Brume stuff in general. Most of the music for it is based on walks I've done or graphic scores I've made whilst walking. When I'm listening back to the recordings it's usually when walking that I decide whether to do something with it or not.

q. describe a favorite object in your living room

I've got a painting by Ben Waggett who does Infant Tree with me (it's titled Shoreham Hovel https://www.victorwaggett.co.uk/threeanchorites/). I love it, I think I asked Ben for it when he was finishing uni and hope it stays with me forever. I live in a shared house with some friends so it's probably the most sentimental thing I keep down here (I'm in the living room now)

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

Yeah, I've got a few things on the go. Next thing to surface will be a tape for Kashual Plastik, which may even be out by the time this surfaces (Last track in the mix is from this tape). Very stoked to be working with my friend Frank to get that music out and I'm really happy with how it sounds. Myself and Sholto Dobie have been editing some recordings we made when I was in Vilnius to see where that will go, which I'm excited about (again I played one of the tracks in this mix). There's another release lined up with some music I made early 2020, not sure when that will surface but it's in the works, and then I've started recording some new MB stuff and am working on some music for different projects. I like to take pictures and recordings of bird houses I find on walks so i'll be keeping that up for sure and maybe one day i'll do something with that, and there's some other work i've been doing with walking and graphic scores for a couple years now but i'm in no rush to share that just yet!
