ROMANYEAH! is an immersive audio-video performance created by video artist Cinty Ionescu inviting you to take a walk on the wild East side with Cinty as she weaves an unconventional journey through vision and sounds of contemporary Romania.

The project, commissioned and presented by the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York in collaboration with the undergroundzero festival 2012 and La Sala at Cantina Royal, had a series of performances in NY at The Living Theatre, Clemente Soto Velez Cultural & Educational Center and La Sala. Than travelled to Stuttgart where was performed within the Camp fo Visual Music Festival.

Romanyeah! has been conceived as a Romanian-American artistic collaboration blending a unique live mix of visuals and music. The theme is Romania, as seen by Cinty, presented for NYC audiences as a visual and musical journey through a land of cultural and social paradoxes. The set is performed live, combining digital and analog video. Visuals include a broad selection of samples from Cinty's Romanian journeys, a slide projection from the artist's childhood in communist Romania, mixed with videos of well known Romanian cultural landmarks.

For Romanyeah! Cinty Ionescu has been working with acclaimed Brooklyn-based DJ, producer and mix engineer Brennan Green who created an original mix for the set. It includes Romanian music samples from classical, folk, traditional and gypsy music, to iconic songs from the '30 and '40s, psychedelic rock of the '70s, and contemporary Romanian electro music, all of them mixed and integrated by Brennan Green into an original soundscape that relates to New York City club music grooves, while still being structured and inspired by the visuals used by Cinty.

In NY Cinty Ionescu was accompanied by viola player Jeanann Dara, in Stuttgart by spoken word by Jonas Bolle and in Bucharest by flute player Mandela Gajol.

ROMANYEAH! (live, 2013)

Raised in Texas and Brooklyn Based, Jeanann Dara is a force in contemporary creation, collaboration and performance. She has developed her own sound as a modern viola performing artist, exploring realms of improvisation and composition. Engaging sounds and manipulating the instrument with extended techniques, she pulls from her strong classical training and invites the listener to participate in the dynamic range of silence to noise and the anticipation in the spaces between.
