Vol. 6

The overarching theme of my new EP ‘Precipitate’ is about cause, effect and change. The definition of Precipitate is as follows;

Cause (an event or situation, typically one that is undesirable) to happen suddenly, unexpectedly, or prematurely.

This project is an expression of trauma and how the processes that occur, when we undergo this, are met with resistance and eventually, acceptance. 

‘Infelicitous’ is the catalyst, the cause of trauma. A negative force that we can’t always avoid engaging with. 

‘Desiccation’ is the response. Barriers, protection, firewalls, they have not yet been implemented. These are then built, but with haste and we tend to find unhealthy ways to achieve this. 

We conclude with ‘Percolate’ and ‘Permeate’. These pieces are about integration. Slowly becoming familiar with this new iteration of ourselves. They represent evolution and the unexpected results that can occur as we grow. Permeate is accompanied by a music video that I created solely from images made in the Ai software, Midjourney. Then I edited them together in Premiere Pro to create a cohesive visual mimicking how the vocals transform in the piece and essentially evolve into something new.

This project has been a very healing process in itself. Albeit, not an easy one. All pieces began swiftly, however, piecing them together was not as such. I had lost hope in the first two pieces till I found ‘Permeate’. When she came to me, I knew I had to continue. It took some time, it turns out there were certain experiences I needed to undergo to understand the full message I was trying to achieve.

I’m very proud to finally be releasing this project, it is inspired by many of my most beloved influences such as Bjork, Thom Yorke, Low Roar, Lusine, Weval, James Blake, FKA Twigs and Rival Consoles.

This Psalm is a cry, a call out for help, for being heard by God.
It is often described as a canticle of gradual ascent (Shir Hama’a lot). This ascent could be understood as a rise from the abyss to redemption.
I believe this Psalm could resonate with many, even non-believers, as it shows a universal and tragic part of human life and human nature. That is the experience of grief, depression, abuse, solitude or simply being in a place so dark that leads to despair.
But it also sends a message of light, optimism, and hope, through the conviction that one will be heard.
Even inf it comes from the Hebrew tradition it shows universal values that can be embraced by many cultures and promote tolerance and acceptance. In fact, this psalm forms a regular part of Jewish, Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican and other Protestant liturgies.
In this sense, during the piece the text follows a chronological use and adaptation throughout the Judaism and the different versions of Christianism: Latin: 530, Rule of Saint Benedict; German: Martin Luther Hymns, 1524, al and eventually the English: King James Version from 1610
