The second single for the upcoming album, Genius Loci North. Spatterdock is an instantly composed song created on site in the Lower Laurentian mountains, telling the story of ancestral energy and the timelessness of nature, in particular the yellow flower called a spatterdock. The animated video for this song by Theo Lambert has been officially selected for the Venezia Shorts Italy virtual festival.

When we met many moons ago Michel and I formed an improvising duo we named Black Fungus. We were eating delicious hot and sour soup while thinking up a band name and that ingredient stood out to us. Because it’s dark and it grows. Our musical milieu was free jazz and our purpose was punk at its core, to confront the negative and expose it, aiming to free ourselves from it. Now, after the horrors of the pandemic, the climate crisis and with the disturbing rise of right wing movements worldwide, it feels important to state our shock again. So we are embarking on a revival of our duo, aided now with new technology to rattle out even more sounds than before, steampunk, free jazz, instant composing with the future. Here I tackle themes of ocean pollution and attempt to decolonize myself as Michel frees his drums to floating in this non-linear space.
