J Downey is a non-binary avant garde music composer. Emerging from a background playing in various noise, punk and mathcore acts, Downey's practice embraces the chaos and ethics of the UK DIY scene with an aim to stretch in new directions with every piece. These have included significant changes in aesthetic and instrumentation, from field recordings and abrasive sounds to atmospheric canons.

Outside of composition, J works on a variety of other musical projects, including playing guitar in Bristolian punk band Red Terror and dabbling in power pop with Plain Microwave.
