Going through a season of uncertainty, setbacks and change in my friendships as well as the church I serve in. In the midst of this, I've been reminded and reflecting on this: what will keep me steady is having my focus on God. Waiting on him, having Him as the focus of my hope and my desire.

God Incarnate Come (2017 recording)

This morning I was reminded of a song I wrote in 2012, "I seek Your Face", which captured in words my heart's desire to know God and become more like Him. That song was inspired in part by Psa 27:8 and Psa 105:4. While singing over the song again, I just felt "Why don't I try incorporate the actual words from those two psalms into the song itself?" I pulled up the words from my NIV 2011 Bible + a guitar, and recorded this attempt.

I Seek Your Face with Psa 27:8 & Psa 105:4

Song inspired during a walk in the quiet morning of Holy Saturday (the day after Good Friday). I'd been thinking on how some mistakes I'd recently made revealed how messed up I am on the inside. As I walked, my thoughts turned to the passage of Isa 53 and how though we were the messed up straying sheep, yet the Messiah would be the one to bear the punishment; this act of love would open the door for us to go from being on the outside to being welcomed into the God's Presence. And how now God will never reject His own (cf Psa 27:10).

The confluence of these thoughts ended up having me find some scrap paper and a quiet spot to pen some words down which (after a bit of hashing) became this song.

Song written 21 Sep 2019, reflecting on how all praise and worship is due to God as King. He is our King by virtue of His creating us (Lord of creation) and by virtue of ransoming us (Lord of salvation).

2019-09-21 Unto You

Over the past few months I had been reflecting on the words of Psalm 27:4 and asking "How much do I really desire to see God's beauty? How much do I really treasure His Presence?"
One Saturday afternoon as I was working on a tune that had popped into my head a few days prior, all the reflections, meditations and prayers seemed to resurface and come together in the following words. The result is this song, which I want to be a prayer and declaration of my life.

Draft D of my song, still a work in progress. 
Theme: surrender, offering to God what He wants ie a surrendered life. He's not impressed by what we do; He wants our lives, our hearts. That's something I sense God has been reminding me in the past 2-3 years since I stepped out of Youth Ministry, cutting back all the busy activity, focusing on the inner life ie my heart's condition before Him.

Written 12 Feb 2021, after reflecting on the phrase "I'm needing You" and Psalm 63 and just how dependent I am on God, whether it is the strength to fight sin, resist temptation, or living to honour Him. And the strange thing is, realising how much I need God makes me want to seek Him even more earnestly.
