The debut release from ZIKR PROJECT brings together acclaimed veteran global music producer and composer JEF STOTT and master musician and composer MAH ZE TAR in collaboration on a fusion of modern cinematic ambient music with the mystical traditions of the Near East. 

Working with rich musical traditions on a wide array of instruments from Iran, Turkey and North Africa, played live by both members of the group, the ZIKR PROJECT presents a deep musical journey within each track, evoking the spinning of dervishes, Rumi’s reveries and ancient sacred traditions. This is medicine music for modern mystics. 

The mystical ney flute of the Sufi tradition, trance rhythms of ancient ceremony, ambient vocal echoes of distant lands, and the iconic melodies of the oud, rebab and saz come together in harmony with masterful and deep sonic landscapes. The music presented guides us to go deep into meditative space while inviting the somatic body to move along in sacred synchronized movement.

Each composition from ZIKR PROJECT will be explored and expanded through alternative ambient and ecstatic dance remixes that will cover the wide range of this profound and beautiful mystical music.

Dünya, the second release from Jef Stott and Mah Ze Tar of the Zikr Project is a deep sonic invocation of all that is sacred within the Earthly realms. Medicine music for the modern mystic.
The cry of the ney flute and plaintive vocals from Mah Ze Tar are supported by deep ceremonial frame drum rhythms and lush soundscapes to create the perfect sound track for medicine journeys that honor the Earth. 

The term Dünya ( دُنْيا ) which is used throughout the Islamic world in several languages refers to the temporal world and its earthly concerns and possessions. The Zikr project releases this collection of related music with the hope of bringing the healing power of the Earth into our homes and our spirits.

This 2 hour journey goes very deep into the realms of the tribal heart while bursting through the clouds! Many gorgeous moments in a very deep flow. 

Featuring Phealeh, Tuhum, Scott Nice, Kaya Project, Yemanjo, Liquid Bloom, Avaaz, Kamananda, Akara, Mirror System, Opiuo and a few tracks of my own as well.

Composer, producer and performer JEF STOTT has been deftly navigating the realms of world fusion music for over two decades, where he has consistently been at the forefront of the International Global Bass movement. 

His sound is a conscious blend of the best in global bass culture which simultaneously reaches back to ancient traditions while pushing the future of music forward.

An in demand performer, Jef Stott has embarked on several successful world tours that have taken him to festivals and club appearances in Asia, North America and Europe often sharing festival stages with the likes of contemporaries Thievery Corporation, Nickodemus, Gaudi, Makyo, Cheb I Sabbah, Beats Antique, David Starfire, Bobby Friction, FreQ Nasty, Janaka Selecta, Dub Gabriel, Kush Arora among others.

Festival appearances include Symbiosis Pyramid Eclipse, Harmony Festival, Earthdance, Beloved, Outside Lands, Source Festival, Sea of Dreams, Green Festival, Joshua Tree Music Festival, Shambala Music Festival and many large clubs and conferences around the world. Jef has recently become the Hookahdome (premiere Burning Man soundcamp) artistic director and main DJ for their events on and off the Playa.

Jef is a highly accomplished lifelong multi-instrumentalist, adding a live performance element to his live shows with many instruments ranging from Arabic string and percussion instruments to guitars, bass drums and live electronics. Jef has lead several live ensembles on stage throughout his career.

Jef Stott’s DJ sets bring a sense of tribal community to the dance floor with dynamic live instrumentation and top shelf musicality from guest performers interplaying with original tracks and live remixes. The arc of his performances can range from the most delicate acoustic and ambient moments to the chakra blasting intensity of peak hour sonic bliss. He is a regular performer at Ecstatic Dance events around the world and is intuitively sensitive to the collective emotion of a moving dance floor.

As a trained anthropologist, Jef Stott has made an in depth academic study of the instruments of the Middle East with master teachers including Hamza el Din, Omar Faruk Tekbilek among others. Jef often collaborates and performs with master musicians and dancers from the Middle East, Northern Africa, the Balkans and India as well as top shelf fusion artists from the West Coast.

As a producer and composer, he has released over 10 full length albums of his own work as well as producing, performing and writing for  Stellamara, Lumin, MC RAI and Qadim as well as many remixes including Azam Ali, Natasha Atlas, David Starfire, Gaudi, Adham Shaikh, Akara, Cemali, Atash, among others. His work has been released on several major labels including Universal, EMI, Six Degrees, Hearts of Space, Triloka and City of Tribes. He writes regularly for network and cable television, stage, video game and feature film. His latest release is ARCANA from Six Degrees Records.

He has recently completed a Masters Degree in Interactive Media. His thesis project The Subtle Body is a multimedia interactive installation and research project that uses the electromagnetic energy from the human brain and body to control audio and visual media.

Jef is currently the lead Ableton Live instructor for Pyramind Audio Production School and Studios in San Francisco. He teaches audio production on a regular basis from his studio and at several educational facilities throughout the Bay Area.

Jef lives and works in San Francisco, California.
