these times they are a changing

This is the first song from my new full length album on Jumpsuit Records “Embraced” titled “Heavenly Bodies”.  It was written in Haiku, Maui at Peace Paradise, the home of Stephanie “Stevie” Farago and features Johnne “Super-Johnne” Perez.  The song is an embodiment of the late “Steven Arnold”, a visionary creator who died in 1994.  Over the years, Steven and Stephanie have been integral teachers on my journey and have helped teach me how to express my inner artist.  

Over the last 5 years, I’ve been spending a lot of time in Maui connecting with the land, writing music, and spending time at Peace Paradise drawing, dancing, learning, expressing myself.  Stephanie embraced me not only as friend and fellow artist, but like a son.  She believed in my art and made it possible to find sanctuary in a place that feels safe to express one’s self.   

This song is dedicated to Steven and Stephanie who now inspire my life from the other side.  Stephanie passed away last July 11th, 2014.  She was 70 years old and still shined like a star.

The lyrics by Johnne Perez are about sewing the worlds together and removing the vail.  The spirit is eternal and when the vail is lifted, one sees that we are all one.  

Thank you Stephanie for helping me learn to express myself!  I feel your spirit.

It's a little known fact that before Ayla Nereo embarked on Wildlight and solo endeavors, she teamed up with her brother Davyd to form the duo BeatBeat Whisper. Some months back we had Davyd up to Jumpsuit Records studios. Davyd started playing this Kid Cudi cover as we were hanging out in our kimonos, drinking delicious teas, discussing matters of the heart. Right before I went to get my slippers I said...&#13;

"My man, we should record that."&#13;

So, we did, with Ayla doing some harmonies.&#13;

I've been listening to this track daily in my own little personal stash of musical goodies, but my heart tells me this one needs to be out there, so here you go.&#13;

Crossroads

Jazzzz in ya bones!!! This song was written during my visit to New Orleans Jazz fest 2014.  One of my most inspiring trips/opportunities to share music thus far happened in May this year when "Soul Visions (Rising Appalachia + The Human Experience) were invited to play at the Sugar Mill with Thievery Corporation (live) and Galactic.  What an incredible opportunity to share the stage with such high level musicians.  Jazz fest BLEW MY MIND.  The city becomes completely inundated with music 24 hours a day.  New Orleans stole my heart.

I was staying at my friend Roc's house (Roc you are a LEGEND).  His house is incredibly inspiring (We recorded 2 of the songs from "Soul Visions" in a closet/bathroom at his home (and may I add that his Kitchen is one of the most magical creative zones EVER.  

One night I couldn't sleep.  I was so overwhelmed with inspiration from going to concerts 12 hours a day, that the music in my head would not turn off.  The only thing I could do was work on music.  That night, I wrote this song.  I also had the vision of recording some especially incredible musicians while I was in New Orleans, yet had unfortunately not found the write players yet.  The following morning, I played the new song for Roc and mentioned to him that I'd really love some guitar.  He said (in his lovely Kiwi accent), "I know this pretty rippin guitar player from this band Trombone Shorty" (if you don't know who they are, do yourself a favor and check them out).  The band happened to be in town playing Jazz Fest (they tour 200 shows a year lol).  Roc called Pete Murano (you are also a LEGEND)  and he was super into the idea of us having a session.  

The day I went over to meet him I was a bit nervous.  A lead guitarist from a huge band can often be "not so approachable", but Pete could not be any cooler, down to earth, and over all an absolutely chill guy (and beyond ripping guitar player).  I love working with you Pete and look forward to creating a lot more music (look for another song on this album coming out soon)

Fast forward a couple months, I email Eric Oberthaler  (eO) with some horn section ideas (Eric, you are also a LEGEND) and here we are with a new song (which makes me dance in pants, and sometimes without pants).

This is the 4th single from my new album "Embraced".  It is a remix I did for the amazing Kyrstyn Pixton, who over the last several years has become a great friend.  

Kyrstyn's music is deep and uplifting.  Her improvisational skills are incredible, and if you've ever had the chance to see her live, she's quite the silly one as well.  I've had some of my favorite live jams with her (dinosaur song at Rootwire, absolutely legendary lol)

I'm so excited to share my rendition of "Beads on the Wind".  I was visiting Kyrstyn and our friend Theo Brama happened to be at her house when I was choosing which song I wanted to remix.  I dove immediately into writing the song and was adding some guitar parts when I invited Theo (also 1/2 of Entheo, who I recommend checking out)to lay down some guitar parts.  Very happy with the result.  This song melts my heart
