As I developed this song and it's lyrics a recurring theme of “crazy laugh of madness” kept percolating to the top of my creative meanderings and musical  sculpting. My new song is called Laugh Seurat.  Here is the journey that led to such a strange song title.  I, at times, receive “instruments” from innovative artists for FREE. On occasion, this arrival occurs at the same point I am deep in the throes and messiness of music creation. 

Several weeks ago I received a strange instrument called Seurat Midi developed by Jason Grier. He has freely allowed the use of his samples and instrument to the general public. “Demonstration Disc is a new album by Jason Grier. It’s also a collection of over 1800 samples and generative Ableton Live music tools which Grier spent the past four years carving, cutting and coding from studio recordings of acoustic and electronic instruments, field recordings, found sounds and more. As part of the album’s release, Grier is making the entire project available as a free download. He has even provided tutorials and has expansion packs planned, making this a unique, open source project that will continue to evolve.”(1) 

I actually, to this day, don’t really understand how the instrument works or its potential.  However,  being a certified tech geek I did horse around with it a bit.  This instrument essentially creates patterns from chaos using any natural sound as a starting point.  I chose an alto saxophone to test the waters. It created a random pattern you can hear in the bridge of the song.  It reminds me of sounds you might hear as an orchestra begins its tuning process.  I included it in my song only because this instrument was the creative spark that initially propelled the song forward out of oblivion. You can here it very briefly in the bridge for a short moment.  I edited most of it out.   Like I said, it was the creative spark, NOT a center piece in the song AND I am most likely using the instrument totally wrong. Oh Well.  

Jason Grier called his instrument Seurat Midi in homage to Georges-Pierre Seurat.  This, of course, made me very curious about Mr. Seurat.  I found out he is a “……French post-impressionist painter and draftsman. He is noted for his innovative use of drawing media and for devising the painting techniques known as chromoluminarism  and pointillism.”(2) This art is best looked at as opposed to discussed.  I thought it was very cool and was very fun to experience but lets move onward.  

As I developed my song and lyrics a recurring theme of “crazy laugh of madness” kept percolating to the top of my creative meanderings and musical  sculpting.  I guess you can now see where this is going.  At the end I was left with a finished song and a decision to make regarding a title for the song.  I decided on:

Sit Down On Your Freedom

I think this track started 2 years ago. I remember talking about the vision with Jamie on the phone and then Jamie sent me a bunch of stems to choose from. I chose the standing bass and recorded my verse with a 90’s vibe in mind. I sent the track over to Russell to add some guitars, he sent that funk rock intro and riff back, and then I don’t know what happened after that? A bunch of other songs got made and the vision for this track expanded to include cutting my second verse and bringing Jon Lock in on vocals. Then the song sat again. Jon and I even started and completed And So You Say and Training Day after we had already got this song started. Since this track was visioned to be part of the first song on the set with Training Day, eventually it had to be completed. Wou-Wou then join in with his synths, rhythm guitar over Jon’s part, and some additional guitar over the first section. This gave the track the final fire it needed and Russell mixed and mastered it like a champ!

As always, massive thanks to Wou-Wou and Russell who have been regular collaborators on so many projects, on SoundCloud, Facebook, and Bandcamp. Wou and Russell will always be the core of my musical team. Thanks for being great friends! 
Big thanks also to Jon, who I have worked with on 3 songs now, with 2 more in the works already! 
And thanks to Jamie for all his patience, support, and for the completion of our second project together!

Well. There is alot to tell about this one and i fear i could write a book, but i spare you. Haha! I've discovered the Japan Synth Pioneer Jun Fukamachi quite some time ago and while doing so, i digged every possible Album on Youtube and leeched this craft. Also had the chance to buy me a few CD's, as there are not so much out there.... rare jewels ... :)

I simply love him. His diversity and ingenousness is something i really really set as a high mark for myself. As long as i can "recall", there was music in my life and even as a child and later on as young and old teenager i loved to go fully emotional with music (like listening to Seal - Kiss from a Rose when a girl broke up with me back then, or discovering ACDC's Back in Black feeling like a little Rocker.... Nirvana and the tragedy when i heard that "Kurtl", as we would could his first name in German, just put a (wtf) shotgun in his head and pulled the trigger... )

Later on i was a pure Metalbanger and even while being one, i was listening to all of the Subgenres, and liked them, no pure black, death, trash, power, or whatsoever,...... This is something i think was always there due to being libra zodiac sign... balance... I became older and suddenly metal was not enough... so i digged everything and no matter if its eletronic, oldschool rock, experimental, classic, ambient, jazz, blues, .... and so on.... i love the variety and this brings me to all of YOU.

I had tons of cds, the napster era , the youtube extreme "following the youtube algorythm into crazy places" thing, i was in wacken as young metalbanger, listening to classic concerts, going to musicals and even watching an opera.... diversityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy..... and now... soundcloud!!! I cannot get enough and if there would be a risk of getting a burnout from listening to all of you, id be the first, for real.

Now the song. I finished it before i even took the andrew huang online course and i am fking happy to exactly release it with the skills i had back then and i dont want to brag ... but i really cant tell you people what struck me back then... maybe this immense jun fukamachi listening and discovering alot of people on here, on the cloud, which already influences me ALOT.

I would not be at the place where i am right now, without YOU and so i dedicate Gate 138 to all of YOU. This piece is LOVE and FUN, and CRAZY and im putting a few words in CAPSLOCK, just because i CAN. HHAAHAHA.

The story behind this cover is a complete different one to tell and please dont be too hard on me because this text is already huuuuuuuuge and long! So finished the piece and i had this picture in my head. There was simply nothing i could get on the web to build it with my graphic skills, neither (not yet lol) am i able to draw it myself, so i checkt out Fiverr and looked for a special and unique artist with his very own style.... and i found him!!

John Bucknall. A young very talented artist from UK. He has as a very unique mindset and it took way longer than i wanted to... he was not very fast, but no complains here. The whole process from zero to the finished cover was just nothing i ever experienced before, and i am really happy that i did choose him and that he exactly managed to draw this stuff in his own style, but presenting that track in the way i wanted it to be with visuals. The story behind this is quite simple. You could transform the situation to any other stressed and crazy thing going on in your life. There is this little android guy and he is freaking out because he is about to miss his shuttle... he worked hard and is always flying around on business trips and hell yeah... life really treats him not so nice... haha. I feel really with him and wished he would catch the shuttle but yeah... whatever.

Tina Turner cover! Heresy? Sure! I gave up on the voice, but still trying to achieve legs like hers. This one is a bit inspired by the version they played on the David Letterman show, with Bill Cosby on cowbell. Hope you enjoy!

The main reason I did this was because my maestro told me to practice the blues scale, so I made my first guitar noodle :-)
