Jefferson Hamer is a songwriter, guitarist, and interpreter of traditional music. "Alameda," his latest album of original songs, was released in 2018, and features Jeff Picker, John Fatum, Alec Spiegelman, Hannah Read, and Sarah Jarosz. Writing for The New Yorker, Robert Sullivan said, "'Alameda,' the title track on Hamer’s album, is a rock ballad with crispy guitar licks and geographic lyrics about a wandering worker, who is maybe the author, but maybe not. In the way that it talks about a long search for work, it reminds me of Woody Guthrie’s Columbia River song series…“Moving Day,” another song on the CD, is now up there with Guy Clark’s “L.A. Freeway” as one of my favorite songs about moving."
Jefferson also performs with Eamon O'Leary in the acoustic folk duo Murphy Beds and as electric guitarist in the six-piece folk-rock ensemble Session Americana. His 2013 “Child Ballads” album with Anais Mitchell earned a BBC2 Folk Award and was named one of NPR’s top-ten Folk releases of the year.
