For the last Avenue Red Podcast of 2016 we finally have a specially crafted mix from Janne Rasi, a very tasteful collector/selector who comes from the Finnish capital city of Helsinki.

We first became aware of Janne's discerning blend of soulful, deep, murky House music from hearing his "Street Party" contribution to the 2014 Discogs DJ Mix Competition, which we were very taken by and thus asked him for a mix back then. Just over 2 years later and our inbox becomes aglow with a lovely mix from out of the blue that here follows the maverick selection from Rubsilent, who won that competition back in 2014! We absolutely love this mix, such a high quality addition to our pile of digital mixtapes to close 2016 with.

"I've been searching for and playing records for 15 years now. Deep House is the core of most of my sets with exceptions where they fit, especially with Techno and Disco. Different events, moods and locations are calling for different music and I like it that way. I'm occasionally playing somewhere in Helsinki or more frequently streaming online, which is a casual way to satisfy the need of spinning wax.

On this mix, I was probably influenced by the Finnish winter landscape. This is a selection of atmospheric, melancholic Deep House. Obviously something for your mind, your body and your soul. It was mixed at my place with three decks at one shot without any post editing. 100% vinyl as usual." Janne Rasi, December 2016

Artslaves borns in 2012 by two Neapolitan producers, Alessandro Rondinone and Domenico Gei, who decide to merge their names and create a new musical project, which may reflect their young but already influential label, Moan Recordings. They already make people talking about since the first release on BlaBla, Inmotion, where they receive wide acclaim and support from world famous DJs. Marco Carola opens the Time Warp in Mannheim with their track "Squilla" on Inmotion on 2013. Their last Ep with the talented Wade reaches great position inside the Top 100 tracks on Beatport and It was played at every Music On from Amnesia to Cocoricò to Kappa Future Festival. They arrange some remixes for Moan, to Miguel Lobo, with the Re-UP and Jordan Peak and the EP of Desolat pupils, Francisco Allendes and Bimas, with Sable Sheep and Luca Agnelli. Their first EP is released on Moan in 2013, a successful collaboration with the French talent Loquace, and two remixes by awesome artists, such as Hector and DJ W!ld. Engaged in numerous Moan showcases, the Artslaves begin to make their appearance in many parties and festivals, including Hungary, Spain, United Kingdom, France and Italy. Their first appearance at the Sonar Off is on 2014, alongside Nick Curly, Marco Faraone, Leon, Gel Abril, Macromism. With more than ten years of experience behind the decks, influenced by house, funky and techno giving to their set a very personal touch, creating the right atmosphere and feelings, wherever they play.

Born and raised in the southern hemisphere, Monika found her love for music in her hometown of Sydney. Monika is an artist who constantly raises her head above the barrier. This radio host, producer and DJ built her grounding in Sydney before immersing herself in Europe’s well nurtured house and techno scene. Monika embraced the allure of the smaller clubbing culture in Australia, which led to her first gig in 2005. With great feedback the path paved its way to her days as a host on FBI radio in 2006. With new guests and keen listeners week-in-week-out Monika was finding her feet and becoming fast recognised as a serious DJ.
The dance floor hasn’t been the only outlet for Monika: working as a sound mixer for the BBC London as well as releasing with labels such as Serialism, Metroline Limited, Entity London, Organic Art Movement and FA>IE make up Monika’s accomplished musical background. Her ability to stimulate a crowd, push the boundaries and her enviable record collection make Miss Ross a much sought­after artist. Definitely one to watch for 2017.

Here he delivers a mix that he says is "housey, melancholic, mystical and deep as ever... but not so happy".

Alessandro has been a busy man as ever, with the 9th release on his label - Thomas Wood's "Rooted In The Past" EP - just out and with a new EP in the pipeline, the details for which are to remain a secret for now we are told! Alessandro also has a track called "FractalClouds" coming out on Federsen's excellent Fifth Interval label (FIFTH004 - samples here: https://soundcloud.com/federsen/sets/fifth-interval-various-artists), where he features alongside Tomas Rubeck, Beat Pharmacy (i.e. Brendon Moeller) and Federsen himself.
