They’re the first non-Brooklyn artists on the label, and, funny story, when they first sent us music, we actually thought they were from Brooklyn. (Shows how much we know.) No matter where they’re from, they’re excellent, and the music they make has found itself perfectly at home on the Mister dancefloor.

Titeknots returns in 2017 with wide spectrum club music for more adventurous DJs and listeners. Pushing on with the themes established in previous releases, these tracks walk a twisting line between ambitiously expansive orchestral textures and physical, focused club productions.
DJs across the spectrum have shown love to Titeknots – from Monki, Gilles Peterson and Phil Taggart on the Radio, to club favourites like Bonobo, Bondax, Mano Le Tough, Tom Trago and Flava D. These productions connect to people whether they are listening on headphones at home or pushing through big club crowds at peak time.

“Help Out When You Can” follows, with the focus now on a delicate piano melody. Surrounded by tough drums and soaring strings, this track shows off the widescreen sound palette and varied dynamic arrangements that are the Titeknots calling card.

Acclaimed music collective Jazzanova release their brand new single ‘Rain Makes The River’ from their up- coming album The Pool. Featuring the haunting vocals of Scottish singer Rachel Sermanni, the propulsive track o ers an intriguing snapshot of the band’s musical deve- lopments since the release of their last original album 10 years ago. 
This most emotive of singles – co-written with Sermanni and recorded, sampled, played, and programmed in Jazzanova’s Berlin studio – begins with moody drums and coarse hits that set a sombre mood. Heavy piano chords join the fray and add to a sense of forlornness. Then Sermanni’s crystal clear vocals cut through it all; soft and delicate they create an honest intimacy – singing about staying with your loved one through tough times. And suddenly the absorbing downbeat stops sounding so heavy and becomes the solid foundation for a united strength, accentuated with bright musical touches that leave a lasting impression. 
Over the past decade the German group, consisting of Alexander Barck, Claas Brieler, Jürgen von Knoblauch, Stefan Leisering and Axel Reinemer, have worked on a multitude of projects. They’ve toured live with the band, hosted radio shows, DJed, remixed tracks by Hugh Ma- sekela, Joe Bataan, Aron Ottignon, Malika Ayane (and many more), curated their labels Sonar Kollektiv and Notes On A Journey and recorded a live studio sessions album of some of their most beloved work. It’s been 23 years since they first got together, and this new album draws from all those years of experience while exploring new territories. The whole makes a brilliant teaser of what we can expect from the forthcoming album.

Having wowed critics and crate-diggers alike with 2012’s acclaimed Magik Cyrkles compilation, Psychemagik are now ready to unleash the follow-up, Magik Sunrise.

Bristling with psychedelic, cosmic and curiously Balearic oddities hand-picked from the depths of their vast record collections, Magik Sunrise is, if anything, even more inspired that its predecessor.

Given that Magik Cyrkles was widely considered to be one of the best compilations of 2012, that’s some feat. That collection garnered praise across the board, appearing in the end-of-year charts of Rough Trade, Juno and Piccadilly Records. As if that wasn’t enough, DJ magazine also described it as “f***ing great!”

The public seemed to agree with their assessment. The limited-edition gatefold, double-vinyl edition of the collection sold out within two days and now changes hands for upwards of £50 on Discogs.

For Magik Sunrise, the Kent-based duo has dug even deeper into the dusty corners of their record vault, deep in the Cosmic Forest. The result is another inspired, 15-track collection that gleefully skips between all manner of forgotten gems and little-known nuggets, occasionally stopping to acclaim an otherwise unknown track or artist.

Off-kilter African reggae (Max Adioa) nestles side by side with eyes-closed deep-jazz funk (Rob Mehl, George Oban), while the stoned, Balearic prog rock of Jeff Liberman jostles for position with the Steve Miller Band-on-valium goodness of Fox’s “The Juggler”. Then there’s the Roxy Music-ish grooves of Joey Newman, the drifting new age ambience of Iasos (whose “Formentera Sunset Clouds”, from the 1975 album “Inter-Dimensional Music”, is a highlight) and the folksy bliss of Yves Simon.

Artists originally ignored first time round, such as Daniel Mathieu, Cherubin, Susana Estrada and Steve & Teresa, are given a place in the spotlight. In fact, Leng spent a considerable amount of time tracking down each artist, allowing them to tell their stories, give the inside history of each track and relive their musical adventures – however previously obscure or overlooked.

“A lot of these artists have been hidden from the music industry for some time,” says Leng’s Simon Purnell. “Us finding them has proved to be a big deal for them, because these tracks were very important to them and this album has brought back their memories of that time.”

Their wares, from misty-eyed acoustic rock to slowed-down blue-eyed soul, sound sublime in Psychemagik’s new setting.

As ever with Leng and Claremont 56, much attention has been paid to the artwork and packaging. Long-time Psychemagik collaborator, acclaimed illustrator Luke Insect, once again handles design duties. His illustration – part pagan, part medieval alchemy, part prog rock revivalism – effortlessly matches the wide-eyed mood of Psychemagik’s brilliant selections.

Like its predecessor, Magik Sunrise will be available on gatefold double vinyl, double CD (with a bonus mix from Psychemagik) and digital download.
