Finally, after several hours of songwriting, recording, mixing and producing, my song "Desperately" is finally out! 

Trivia time! 

- This is the first song I wrote with my ukulele with the first few chords I learned months ago. 

- I wrote this for a girl, a co-worker at my dayjob. 

- Art is made by my fellow musician and friend Nikki Nava thank youuu!

- This is my first time to introduce real claps and snaps recorded. Small fact: I am not good at snapping my fingers, so I asked my roomie Kuya Baste to snap for me! Thank you Kuya Baste for the wonderful snapping!

Here's my take on Ingrid Michaelson's version of Elvis Presley's classic hit "Can't Help Falling In Love".

Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Presley Cover)

This song is about being a "Ted Mosby" - a hopeless romantic person who frequently makes big gestures. It's a silly and fun song about being too grand and almost desperate when expressing and confessing your feelings to someone. 

I kind of wrote this song to justify my reckless choices when I publicly confessed to a girl I like through a song. I felt like my rash actions and I, somehow have a similarity to How I Met Your Mother's lead character, Ted Mosby, hence the title of the song, "Blue French Horn".

The song has an upbeat, almost danceable rhythmic percussions but slightly minimal, with only claps on the verses. In alignment with the title, I tried to incorporate brass synths, which I don't normally do. I also did layers of backing vocals reminiscent of barbershop quartets and doo-wop.

I wrote this song for a girl I like, who doesn't seem to need anyone to take care of her. She knows what she wants and works hard to get it. She's a determined girl who takes care of herself well. To sum it up, she's a strong, independent woman which is one of the reasons I adored every thing she does, every lyric she writes, every note she sings and every chord she plays. 

She inspires me to be better. She's my muse. She's out of my league and I know it, yet I still sang this song to her to confess how I feel. It's funny because the song became a self-fulfilling prophecy on how things turned out to be. (YES, I was FRIENDZONED)

This arrangement wasn't how I intended it to be in the first place. I used to play this song differently until I experimented with tunings. The standard tuning for regular ukulele is GCEA. While for this song, I played it in FCCA making the instrument sound more 'folky' which is why I decided to change the strumming pattern. I also incorporated a 2-part string arrangement, some bell sounds and a subtle ambient pads. I added a combination of bass and percussions to achieve a fun and upbeat vibe reminiscent of world music drumming.

I've been planning to record a cover of this song ever since I first heard the original version 6 years ago, from Icelandic music icon, Björk which is one of my influences as a musician. 

This song is about wanting to break free from the toxicity of a destructive relationship using the isolation of living on a mountain top with a jaw-dropping view to being confined in a love affair, so beautiful yet hostile at the same time, as a metaphor.

For the arrangement, I tried my best to stay true to Bjork's masterpiece. I kept the string ensemble while omitting the electronica instrumentation, adding several layers of ukulele plucks and strums instead.

The world was devastated as we found out about Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington's death at the age of 41. I grew up listening to LP and Chester is one of my favorite singers. Their music has touched millions of struggling youth worldwide including me. I hope you like my take on the song.
