This song was a bit challenging for me. Firstly, because I barely know the melody and the words so I have to learn from scratch. And Secondly, because it  requires a lot of belting.

The original version was sort of a punk rock ballad and I approached it as an electronic track. I just recently reformatted my laptop so I lost a lot of my plug-ins. I had to use the basic packs still it turned out alright. The beat is reminiscent of a dubstep drumkit. I added some piano and bells as a staple in almost every part. I also sticked with a bass guitar sound although I was aiming for bass wobbles. The synth parts on the bridge adds a little flavor while rising on the climax. 

For some reasons, I altered a few words on the chorus but I think it's not that noticeable. The original version had some growls/screams and since I am not that skilled in that kind of singing, I omitted the part. I also enjoyed layering the vocals on the latter part.

This song was requested by someone I just knew and though it's only been days, I feel that we are connected in some sort of special way. This one's for you. :)

I've always dreamt of doing this song. It's a power-ballad track by My Chemical Romance and you can really feel the emotions on how Gerard Way conveys the lyrics. 

So what I did here was incorporate some synth to this pop-rock somber tune. I kept the original structure of the song while adding some electro stuff. The pre-chorus part is a little experimental, making the sound feel like a nintendo game score. 

Meanwhile, in the vocal department, it was a little tiring with my throat. I kept the original pitch so it was a bit challenging. In some parts, I tend to become shouty trying to mimic Way's technique so I just added some pretty audible harmonies to lighten up the strain on the main vocals.

This song is about legacy. The protagonist begs to be remembered with all the good things he's done to that special person in his life when his time to pass on comes.

The arrangement I did can be described as alternative with electronic leanings. I started with sine bass that lasted throughout the whole song up to its ending. Piano, beeps and a portamento saw lead can be heard in the middle of the track.

I exaggerated the reverb/delay on the vocals. The layered chorus is my favorite part vocally.

Leave Out All The Rest - Linkin Park Cover

I planned making a cover of this song about a year ago but the idea was scrapped for another cover. Now here it is, my first Owl City cover.

The beginning was a little influenced by Bjork's "Earth Intruders" and "Human Behaviour". So I arranged some tribal, ethnic beat that is very prominent in the first half of the song. In the latter part, the drums came in with lots of synth for a full production while maintaining the tribal, ethnic beat on the background.

The vocals started soft but grows as the song progresses. I changed up some melodies on the second verse. Layers of background vocals are added to strengthen the main track. I personally love the outcome of the chorus after the bridge. I was surprised that the harmonies sounded so well.

The Scientist - Coldplay Cover

The hook of this song is really catchy. It gets stuck with you once you listen to the track. I like the lyrics of the song. The verses have this certain oblivion to it that you would wonder what the song writer meant by his scenarios. It was months ago when I started producing the instrumental for this song. The initial version has a classical music meets dubstep attempt. It was cool but I decided not to go on with that style. The newer version is has a different feel and more subtle.

The arrangement starts with a simple piano instrumentation juxtaposed with some bells. Strings and some bass piano are later incorporated on the chorus part. The beat begins to thump on the second part to give the song some life. The full production can be heard on the last chorus until it fades to the outro of the song.

Doing the vocals was a little challenging. I had to warm up just to belt the notes on the chorus with full chest voice. I experimented on the phrasing of words on the first verse since it is difficult to breathe well when you're trying to put emotions on the vocals. Harmonies are incorporated on almost every part of the song except the first two lines. I really think that backing vocals are really vital to make a song alive. The adlibs on the end are really unexpected. I noticed that my arrangement slightly sounded similarly with One Republic's "Apologize" that's why you can hear a little of that. It was not part of my plan but I did it on purpose. Well it worked, I think.

This is one of those songs that I planned to cover a long time ago. I made a short instrumental before which I expanded into the full one. 

The arrangement I did was inspired by electropop artists like Lights and Owl City. The song started with this electronic beat and is later joined by bells, synths, cello and the two bass I incorporated. It's a complete departure from the original version.

Vocally, I tried emulating pop punk/punk rock stylings contrary to the obvious folky approach I could have done. I enjoyed layering the vocals toward the end. There's a short acapella-esque portion before the song concludes.

Lego House - Ed Sheeran Cover

This is one of those radio songs that I have listened to when I was a kid but I never really paid that much attention. Then after a decade, someone requested me to cover this song. I never really knew the verses of this one but I am a little familiar with it. It has a very desperate and sad lyrics talking about losing someone who is very special and dear to you. I really like the bridge and the last part of the song. The imagery is really effective.

The arrangement undergone some last minute changes. The intro was really different from the first one. The piano I did has really changed the feel of the song. I changed up the chords on the chorus to match the piano intro which is really a gamble. But then again, it worked like peanut butter to jelly. The track is kinda electronic dance music meets alternative rock. The synths are prominent but not too strong to make the song robotic. The bass did the trick I guess. The drums is a mixture of electro drum kit and a realistic snare that added organic textures to the beat.

I emulated the original vocals mixing it with some pop rock/ pop punk stylings to make the take a little more updated.

I wasn't really planning on doing this song but I just can't say no to singing such an impressive tune. I made an instrumental for a friend who covered this song about a year ago, I think. I tweaked the arrangement, added some bells and strings.

I did a different approach with the vocals. I usually don't maximize the vocal techniques that I already know. I tried different textures and changed a few notes. The runs I did on the last part was really difficult to execute. But it turned out quite well for me.

Francis invited me for a collaboration of this Grammy-nominated track called “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie and this is the finished product. The original version is very intimate, accompanied only by an acoustic guitar that’s why I decided to keep the arrangement minimalistic. The song starts with a piano/synth instrumentation which is later joined by some strings. You can hear me mostly on the background vocals and solo on some verses. I Will Follow You Into The Dark - Jessen Ocbina & Francis Regalado

This track really took some time to materialize. As I remember it, I think it was about 2 months ago since I started the production. The lyrics of the song, for me, speak about growing apart with a person who is dear to you. Sometimes people change and you just can’t figure out what caused the fall out.

When I first worked with the instrumental, I was aiming for an electropop/dark wave arrangement. Then as weeks went by, I experimented by adding some dubstep elements and later on, drum n bass breaks. The track begins with a harp and distorted drums which is later joined by breakbeat drumming and heavy synths. The chorus features some heavy grinding bass which is meant to mimic the weight of the electric guitars of the original version. The bridge part is turning point of the song in which the complexity goes down for a while giving way for a more intimate and dramatic effect. I also added a little theremin instrumentation which can be heard after the bridge.

This song means so much to me. The lyrics and arrangement of the original is very moving. I remember singing this song in the karaoke and I almost cried. Haha. True Story.

My approach to the instrumental is somehow a bit like chamber pop; starts with harp patterns and string pads. As the song reach the mid-line, I added some piano. I've been listening to a lot of piano covers on Youtube, and I guess Sunny Choi has influenced the keys on this one. 

On the latter part of the song, I recorded layers of backing vocals to create a dreamy harmony reminiscent of an "almost - A Capella" portion. It took me 3 hours, producing and recording.

I tried a different approach with this song. I messed up with the chord structure and came with a haunting vibe along with some trip-hop elements and of course the wobble bass at the chorus. The end product kinda reminds me of some tracks on Alex Clare's debut album, "The Lateness of the Hour". I changed the melody a bit yet I think it's still recognizable. Enjoy! :D

I was planning to cover this a few months ago with a stripped down jazzy arrangement. It ended up being a sultry trip-hop inspired folk attempt of a Maroon 5 song. The bass I used on the chorus was a little bit inspired by dubstep wobbles. I kept the vocals a bit thin with only 2 part harmonies. Enjoy :)
