This song came to be when I was on break working at Chipotle years back. I was tired, frustrated and anxious and I was dealing with the stress of finances as well as depression. I wanted to make a song where I can be both sophisticated and ignorant, almost like a contradiction. For those who are tired of feeling empty, numb or even being the "bigger man" this song is for you, cuz I know how that feels.

This song is about having a complex. 

I wrote this song as a way to express my insecurity, in the most vague way possible. In the beginning of the verse, I open up with, "Mind over matter, what matters is food for thoughts are being served up on a platter. I'm moving up in this world, by climbing all these ladders. Never catch me stagger, glass ego shatters. Now watch the content splatter."

What sounds like a bunch of random words being strung together in a clever rhyme scheme, is really just a front, for being a condescending prick. Halfway through the song I start actually getting into the meat and potatoes of what I am saying, but not directly saying it which is, "hey! I'm telling you I'm insecure and trying to prove I'm better than you, without telling you I'm insecure and trying to prove I'm better than you." Hence the lines 'glass ego shatters. Now watch the content splatter.' ie my fragile ego is about crumble and the truth is going to be exposed.

This song is actually about my adolescent years, specifically between the ages of 17 - 23, and expressing my intellect through my narcissistic banter and my immature attitude.

COMPLEX.

This song is about depression, materialism, and the dangers of pride and how it affects my mind and how I view the world. And it was inspired by the song "Africaryan" by Logic. 

The title "Bushido Brown" is a play on my racial heritage. I'm black, pacific islander and Japanese hence the name Bushido Brown. I use certain references to paint the picture of a young kid in Sacramento, stuck in corporate America trying to break free from the bonds of the financial matrix. 

Using lines such as "Nat Turner in the hood trying to be a free man, just to be a ronin wandering this land" to describe working for 'The Man' as well as breaking free from the "stereotype" of the only way to make it out of the hood is to be a rapper, a baller, a pimp or a gangsta. But also to show that success isn't weighed upon how many expensive chains are on your neck.

“Identity Issues” is a song about the lack of self worth and making a change and self improvement. When this song was being conceptualized, I was at a low point in my life and I felt unworthy of being loved. I was sleeping on someone’s mother’s couch, I was working 2 minimum wage paying jobs and surviving and eating fast food and food from the corner store. I was seeking out women for their validation of my worth at the time and because of my insecurities, it ended up affecting my relationships. That’s what this song is all about. Change, self worth and self improvement.

I wrote this song when I was my lowest point. This song is a little journey into my past and the choices I made. This song #fbf​ is a flashback to some good memories, but with good memories comes some bad ones too.
