Nervous Gender aka Wall of Gender

Nervous Gender was conceived in 1978 by early synth punk pioneers Edward Stapleton and Gerardo Velasquez.   From the late seventies through the eighties they performed in clubs, lofts and galleries during the burgeoning West Coast punk rock scene in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

In 1982 Nervous Gender recorded their "Music From Hell" album for Subterranean Records in San Francisco.  Nervous Gender was asked by Target Studios to perform in the "Live at Target" video along with Fatrix, Flipper and Zev (soundtrack released on vinyl by Subterranean Records  ).  They also appeared on "New Wave Theater", an early eighties cult classic television music show in Los Angeles.  

During the 80's they performed with, among others,  Physic TV, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Christian Death, Gun Club, and Eisturzende Neubauten.  However, no studio recordings of these performances exist.

In the mid eighties Edward and Gerardo  were contacted by Bruce Moreland of Wall of Voodoo after his hearing they were on the verge of breaking up.  He encouraged them to continue on performing and suggested that Bruce and Mark Moreland along with Chaz Grey, Ned Leukharol and Joe Nanini, of Wall of Voodoo, join forces to create the second incarnation of Nervous Gender, which was nicknamed Wall of Gender.

Which brings us forward to 2017.  During the intervening years Gerardo Velasquez and Mark Moreland passed away.  Edward Stapleton and Bruce Moreland ran into each other again and decided it would might be a good time to recreate and record the sound of the Nervous Gender/Wall of Gender collaboration. 

So with this ambition in mind, a new line up was created which consists of Edward Stapleton, Bruce Moreland, LA Drones! and Matt Comeione,
