Inisheer (R&R #4683 with Wilkes head)

An exploratory clip playing the well-known set dance tune in an unusual key (G minor rather than the usual E minor) and therefore making significant use of the keys.

King Of The Fairies (in Gm) - R&R #2130

Two slow jigs, "The Vicar Of Llanarth" by Elsa Davies (Wales) and "La Fée Des Dents" by André Brunet  (Québec) played on 10-key simple sytem flute Rudall & Rose #2130 made c 1833, tuned to A=425Hz at which it is best in tune with itself and most sonorous.

The Vicar Of Llanarth & La Fée Des Dents (R&R#2130 @ A=425Hz)

I learnt the Finnish Metsäkukkia ("Forest Flowers") as an untitled "Scandinavian" waltz from a 1997 album by Breton band Tud. Tom Bhetty's Waltz is a well-known Irish tune.

Telemann sonata for flute and continuo played by Jem Hammond (flute) and Chris Symons (keyboard) at Oswestry School on 17:11:2000.
The flute is a Rudall & Rose 8-key simple system one made c1843. The keyboard is an electronic piano with (pretty decent/convincing) harpsichord setting. We played at modern Concert Pitch A=440hz. This is by no means a properly "historically informed" rendition and is certainly not on period instruments, though I hope it shows some awareness of such issues.
(Please note - I am not a classically trained fluter and it took me an extensive amount of preparation to play even this well/poorly! My thanks to Chris for his encouragement and support!)

Excerpts from the Ouverture BWV 1067 (keyboard reduction) played by Jem Hammond (flute) and Chris Symons (keyboard) at Oswestry School on 17:11:2000.
The flute is a Rudall & Rose #4683, an 8-key simple system one made c1843. The keyboard is a high quality electronic piano. We played at modern Concert Pitch A=440hz. New tune written on/for a flute made by F Besson and dedicated to amazing French fluter Anna Besson (no relation) (who has "history" with mazurkas! ;-) ).

Traditional Irish slow air Éamonn na Chnoic (Ned of the Hills) on RC&Co. Radcliff's Model flute #7261 made in 1929.

I'm still learning this tune - not playing from dots, but it isn't well anchored in my mind at time of recording nor is my interpretation fully developed nor confident.

Another outing for my lovely Low Bb flute - a favourite slow air this time - An Feochán/The Gentle Breeze, written by famous fiddler Tommy Peoples and popularised on (concert D) flute by the late Frankie Kennedy, from whose recording I learnt it.

Another practice clip for the FB tune-swap group. This clip was made semi-sight-reading the dots after a few runs through to start to get it under my fingers. There are some ill-placed breaths etc...... I didn't know this tune at all previously. The notation I used is the second setting given on The Session: http://thesession.org/tunes/4225.

Two reels on low Bb flute - Christmas Eve (which I know very well - written by fiddler Tommy Coen) and The Providence (which I only learnt quite recently). This clip was recorded on my old minidisc player and transferred to mp3 via the PC - I think the sound quality should be way better than all my other tracks here which have been recorded via the SoundCloud mobile app - very convenient and easy to use but not good audio results! I really wanted to try to publish a better representation of the sound this flute makes!

Christmas Eve & The Providence (low Bb flute)

A probably misguided attempt on my part to record a classical (Baroque) piece commonly misattributed to and now permanently associated with G Pergolesi - most inauthentically on a C19th 8-key flute, and me trying to do stuff I don't often do like tonguing lots! So, there's all sorts wrong with this which I know about and probably even more I don't. Playing unaccompanied I have, of course, shortened the handful of longer rests for tutti passages in the solo part and didn't count them out in full!

Phrasing and articulation are my own, not really attempting to be idiomatically Baroque HIP and not necessarily all properly achieved as intended, nor without casual supplementary breaths sneaked! Also, the recording combination of SoundCloud and my mobile phone rather evens out dynamics I intended/attempted and favours treble sounds, making my tone sound hissier and my tonguing much harsher and more explosive than it sounds (to me) in the flesh.

Pergolesi (misattributed) G major Flute Concerto - 1st Mvt - "Spiritoso" (on H Fentum 8-key flute)

Having a (fairly) good tone day ;-) and making the most of the acoustics in my parents' kitchen in Andalucia (dunno if Soundcloud will butcher them!). I have recorded this before some months ago, but only from the dots, not since I learnt it/developed an interpretation.
