As good as it feels to get and give, it is sometimes even nicer to just witness something together. Sharing a moment feels closer to the core of friendship than measuring reciprocal benefits, attempting to evaluate the strength of the bond. Lately I have been thinking less about single acts of kindness and more about the times when giving back is like a favourable by-product from just bearing witness to something important to someone else.

Experiencing the storms of my mind with me, my friend has shown a deep respect for the process, the agents, and the effects - while recognising that we do not pretend to understand it all... We speak during the calm moments during my storms, enriching each other's experience with new perspectives on the same swirling clouds, gusts of wind, sudden drops in temperature. In doing so, she ends up claiming the storm as her own - now it is Emma's storm. Reflected back to me, I witness and reclaim it. I see her perspective and see the storm as if through another's eyes - I call the one with this new perspective on me Mr Otssamme.
