FRIENDS - The Way (BLOOD ORANGE MIX)

With 25 years of DJing under his belt, long time Chicago stalwart Rupert Murray, returns under a new project, Jaq Attaque. He has taken all that he’s learned over the years, running the gamut of electronic music, and stretched dance music to the limits of how it can all fit together. Beginning from the lynchpin of house and techno, his sets can span from RnB to Hardcore and most everything in between. 
 
Jaq Attaque’s spent the four years leading up to the pandemic working as The Blessed Madonna’s production partner, cranking out remixes and co-producing her single, “He Is The Voice I Hear” and soon to be released debut album. 

He’s had scattered releases over the past 2 decades under numerous monikers and groups including: Local Hero, Noise Floor Crew, TRUSTUS, War Games, aKademy and, most recently, SIGSALY.

As a DJ, Jaq Attaque’s sets are relentless, technical, playful, and unpredictable. While his tastes are rooted in Midwestern house and techno, he has a love for finding great, overlooked tracks from oft dismissed genres from all over dance music.

 As a Producer, he excels in finding the music in everyday sounds. He is adept and both the technical engineering elements and the honest unpolished artistry that balances his productions. His sound is refined, rich, and detailed (thanks in part to his background in the physics of acoustics) and has been apparent in the music of the numerous artists for whom he has produced, mixed, and engineered.

Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: What’s the thing that you’re kind of desperate to hear–the thing you always wish you were hearing when you listen? Do you have that? Try to make that, and then let yourself be distracted in the process and follow the rabbit holes that result from the making. You might come back to the original thing, or you might fuck around and find some other thing you didn’t know you desperately needed to hear.

this is my friend noel, aka alejandro marenco.
from the dancefloor to the record store, our friendship came to be through music. 

we both share the same love and appreciation for all those swung sounds heavy in bass and percussion. working at the same record shop, we would freak out about records; more often than not we are by the speaker at the same parties; we've shared the booth together; and each set of noel's i have seen has been absolutely the vibe. one of my favorite chicago DJs, to be honest, so i'm excited to share this mix of his with you. 

if you're noel's friend, he will big you up. and that's what raving is really all about. he truly supports the endeavours of his friends whether it's sharing mixes, showing up at the party, or spreading the word about his friends' achievements.

this friendship mix is literally all tracks made by his friends ~ some of them mutual so i’m over here like look at this! 🥹

By/Of is a large scale work for live electronics, mobile lighting, projection and amplified room, floor, and movement artists. In it, Lyle and her collaborators explore the remembrance of architectural shape and the experience of space as integral to one’s perception of self in space and community. A site-specific project based on environment, contact, closeness, and the sound of sculptural movement, the work’s vocal/movement language and dramatic underpinning convey a narrative of community and decay. *This recording is a sound-only, stand-alone version of the piece; very different from the live experience, but very exciting as a sound object in its own right! Listen with headphones or a sound system.

Jenna Lyle is a composer, vocalist, and performing artist from Carrollton GA. Based in Chicago, she has presented her own works as well as those of her colleagues throughout the U.S. and abroad, with performances recently by Chicago’s Spektral Quartet, the Riot Ensemble of London, Loadbang, and Northwestern University’s Contemporary Music Ensemble.  Jenna is also co-founder and co-administrator of Parlour Tapes+, a New Music cassette tape label and media/performance collective in Chicago.

Both compositionally and in performance, she specializes in the extended voice with a focus on human interaction, body awareness, and the unification of physicality with creative process for the sake of immediacy, complexity of expression, and intimate exchange.  Her style has been described as having a “leave-’em-wanting-more approach, offering music whose brevity and surface uncomplicatedness enhanced its ear-grabbing ability.”-Gavin Borchert [Seattle Weekly, Aug. 2010]
